I feel very sad that the Adelaide Oval may have to comply with the AFL's all seating policy. The Adelaide Oval without a hill will be missing a vital component. No more view of St Peters Cathedral. No more Moreton Bay Figs. The old scoreboard will have to be jammed in somewhere no doubt due to its heritage listing. I have consciously avoided becoming a member due to the simple fact that I love that piece of grass to the right of the scoreboard so much that I far prefer being there than the times I have had the misfortune of spending the day on the Western side.
One of my favourite times times of the year is getting to the Oval at gates open on the weekend of the Test, spreading out my blanket, opening the paper and watching the ground fill up. Joy. RIP one of the last bastions of grassy Test cricket in Australia. May it rise again.

Spot on. Everyone's getting worked up about the loss of the hill. If you have a look at the plans their actually not touching that end of the ground, it will stay as it is now. They are just looking to build a massive stand from the Chappelli's around past the Bradman & joining onto the stand currently under development.
Personally I can't wait to see AFL at the Adelaide Oval. No doubt the old girl will lose some of her charm, but I think if it's done right they should be able to preserve what makes the Adelaide Oval one of the most beautiful grounds in the world.

Its important to remember that the low rider trams are the no 1 best form of transport for people in Wheelchairs as opposed to trying to get ramps onto crowded buses. Running several trams at once in and out of Adelaide Oval in addition to Buses and Trains will definitely make a huge difference to the current gridlock that is Football Park.

Yep, fair enough. I had a knee jerk presumption that it would spell the end of the hill. If there's still a patch of grass, it looks like it would be fantastic. Especially since it looks like the "light filled" stadiums idea will be continued. I have sat in the Chappell stands before and they are terrific, compared to the usual concrete jungle.
Very glad to be proven wrong, now just hoping that we'll still be able to sit on a patch of grass during the Test. It's the simple pleasures...

It also looks massive! The hill is virtually dwarfed. But it is good that they have retained the hill. It looks as though the old scoreboard will survive also. Another tick.
Usually I don't like to see our heritage getting swept away, but I think it would be a bonus for Adelaide to have this stadium built.
There needs to be an Adelaide Oval Museum located somewhere in the oval though: photographs of how the ground used to look, with a scale model of how it looked before they built the Bradman stand: a history of changes made to the ground: a list of records broken on the Oval, memorable or infamous moments in both Footy and Cricket, film archives of events, replicas of trophys and actual memorabilia (a bail from an Ashes match, team blazer worn by the Don etc.) I am sure they could fill a museum and that it would be worth a look for the average sports lover.
