with players these days, the word gets around pretty quick as to who the money chasers are. not too many teams in the higher up divs would go after these sort of players. due to the teams in higher up divisions getting to pick from the best, they wouldn't really have to worry about throwing money at a shark.
not saying that the clubs in lower divisions recruit these sort of guys (it's usually the country sides that recruit them).
the type of person they are depends on how much more money you would offer them.
for example, if they are keen on helping out around the club, have a lot of mates out there already, are gonna stick around for a while, can attract other mates to come out (maybe from league clubs etc).
all of this would come with asking questions and getting references on the players history.
this is how i think most clubs would aim to recruit players, and would like to think they do.
from the outside though, some would disagree with how other clubs do it :?

I saw on seek.com.au that Coolangatta are actually advertising for players on job search sites.
They will offer work and accommodation as well as remuneration (im guessing thats the match payment)

I haven't researched if they are a fully amateur side, but theres no way they could fit that under a salary cap if they are.

Might give em a call :D

back onto the topic because i think its an interesting one,
PAC until the past year or 2 was always just a case of come out to the old cols after school. but there was never much done to let the lads know finishing school what the go was with the club. and hence we slipped div's.

these days we have a recruitment commitee (made up of certain commitee members) and target lads from school who may be border line ressies, to make sure there next stop is us not a fellow amatuer club or country team.

obviously success helps with recruitment but a good club atmosphere also makes things a shit load easier!

We don't have a recruitment policy, we just get blokes to hassle their mates who play at other clubs to come have a kick.
