FA Cup Match Of The Season (Man U v Leeds U)

Postby Pidge » Wed Dec 30, 2009 1:25 am

The 'High Flying' Leeds United travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester United in the FA Cup this weekend. Does anybody know if the game will be on Foxtel, or will i have to look for a live stream on the net?

Yeah i know... but still it should be a pretty good game. Leeds are travelling along pretty smoothly at the moment. I think we're a pretty good chance of causing an upset.

I think (and hope) they do field a full strength team, there is rivalry between these two clubs so Fergie will be keen to put Leeds in their place and the supporters will not be happy if United send a reserves team out and lose.

I was going to ask about this the other week ... How does the rivalry between Man U and Leeds come about?

I reckon the rivalry goes back to the 60's and 70's when Leeds were a force in the top flight First Division.

You can read more about it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeds_Unit ... C._rivalry

According to that it dates back further than the 60s and 70s... right back to the 1500s! The War of the Roses took place then and this is what the rivalry has been nicknamed.

Some good examples of dickhead fans in there... when the Leeds fans were murdered in Turkey.. a lot of United fans paid their respects at Elland Road but then the next time the two sides played some idiot fans unfurled banners like "Galatasaray Reds" and "MUFC Istanbul Reds". Of course some Leeds fans love to sing songs about the Munich air disaster as well.

I'm not sure on this one. The are plenty of games played over the Christmas period and with Man United challenging for the PremierLeague as well as the Champions League, so they may look to rest some of their better players for this game.

Spot on Marty, it is from the war of the roses and the rivalry between anything between Lancashire and Yorkshire (The house of lancaster is a red rose and the house of York is a white rose) Leeds v Man U is the biggest rivalry as they were / are the biggest clubs in each county, but the rivalry extends to all comps, all teams. Barnsley v Burnley this year in the League Cup had quite a bit of banter.

I disagree. We played a second string Liverpool (Although they had Mascherano, Carragher and N'Gog playing) in the Carling Cup and imo we outplayed them. We had a goal disallowed, Kisnorbo was great in defence and Snodgrass was probably best on field down the right.
We have every chance. It just depends on what team they decide to play.
