Marcus North' replacement for the third test

Postby kitchdog » Tue Jan 05, 2010 3:54 pm

Who do you guys think it will be?

Klinger could be in line for a test debut I think...

North's summer has been horrendous.

Siddle may go as well...one trick pony for mine.

Perhaps keep Hughes, and drop Kat down the order.

Hilfenhausenenator for the Tassy test.

should be, could be, would be wont be. Klinger's last game was almost 3 weeks ago, ithink the selectors would rather someone playing some state cricket, even if it is 20/20. Don't think they will drop north just yet anyways

North won't get dropped, you need to play poorly for 4 or 5 years to get dropped from the Aussie team which is a load of carp really.

He has done pretty well in his limited amount of Tests thus far but it is time for him to move on and bring someone else in.

Assuming Katich comes back I'd slot him back as opener, drop North and replace him with Hughes.
Yes he's normally an opener, but he's also a decent strokemaker and could play down the order.

Isn't Hilf out for the summer?

As for North I reckon they'll give him one more chance. If they don't, they like to pick players to debut on their home ground so I'm thinking Bailey.

I'm not sure Klinger is on the selectors' radar?

I don't think it will help Hughes' career to bat him at 6. He's an opener and needs to earn his spot as an opener IMO. Katich and Watson have been so successful so far that I wouldn't mess with that just to get Hughes a gig. His time will come.

Youra beauty redlegger
You just had to throw in Bailey for a reaction
In all fairness you do pick some longshots
But to expect a player who cant get a reglaur game for SA to be picked in the 3rd Test is unfathomable

NORTH
When he was used as the batting offspinning allrounder he played well
Howver sonce he stopped bowling his batting has deteriated

Will he be dropped ?
Not Yet , he had very good form until this summer
I think he needs to bat higher
Facing the older ball and spinners is not his cuppa tea
When he gets past those bowlers he makes good scores
As a Longshot [but it wont happen] Ponting at 5-6 and North at 3 ?

I'm more concerned by the poor form of Ponting and Clarke than who is going to replace North.

I don't think Clarke's form is a concern. He had a good year last year but the last test or two he has not done so well.

Ponting on the other hand needs to make some adjustments to his batting style as the eyes and reflexes are obviously not what they once were and the expansive shot range he once had needs to be reined in a little.

North, i think he will be dropped, for either Hughes or Marsh who at six have plenty of experience with the new ball and that is what they will be facing plenty of times at 6.

Have to agree AH, Ponting I reckon has been bluffed by the hype caused by the Windies and the short ball, but i really think looking at this test really in both innings only Watson and Hussey have looked in any sort of control. Watson got 2 gems that got him out, Hussey although not his usual self in both innings has fought hard, albeit he got dropped 3 times today, at the end of the day he is still there and though i think it is highly unlikely, if he gets a ton and Siddle and Dougie hang in there with him we may get a lead of 150 and then one never knows. The form of Ponting is a real concern as well as Clarke, I watched Clarke very closely today and he worked so so hard but at the moment he seems to be missing something. Hughes wasn't anything special but hell he battled hard for his innings and showed he can actually fight it out tough. We cant expect guys like Haddin, Johnson & Hauritz to bail us out the crap, Marcus North is a worry but when u look at Stats he has done as much, if not more than the Captain. Think Ricky should bite the bullitt and drop to 5 or 6, i reckon he would then be able to play a more natural game Think we may be in for some very interesting times in the next 6 months.

Reckon either just before or just after lunch will be an embarrasssing moment in Australian cricket, been many many years since Pakistan beat Australia in test cricket, but well done to the Pakistan side, they have played some great cricket this test and have really won 3 days out of 3 quite easily

Unfortunately, it's the ball. :)

I guess my worry about Clarke is he seems to be experiencing concentration problems. He gets into a stride and then begins hanging his bat outside off, or playing across the line to straight ones. People say he copped a good seed in the first innings, but he left too large a gap between bat and pad. I'm a Michael Clarke fan. I just think he really needs to work on his concentration, it's not the Clarke I'm used to.

Ponting's another issue. I guess every player gets to the stage when they are past their peak and heading towards the down slope. I fear Ponting has reached this stage, and if we are worrying about how to replace North, how are we ever going to replace Ponting? .. especially with Clarke struggling at the moment.
