Southend United put their off-field troubles to one side as Lee Barnard fired an injury-time winner to earn a 1-0 home success over Gillingham.
The Blues are due in the High Court next week over a tax bill of £690,000 million. But those worries were temporarily forgotten when Banard tapped into an empty net from six yards after Simon Francis' long cross had been headed back across goal by Alan McCormack.


An 83rd-minute winner from Millwall substitute Gary Alexander sent Coca-Cola League One leaders Leeds to their first defeat of the season.
Neil Harris opened the scoring for the home side after only three minutes, but Leeds were back on level terms nine minutes later through defender Patrick Kisnorbo.
Alexander came on for Steve Morison just after the hour and headed past Casper Ankergren, but Leeds stay top by a point from Charlton and have played a game less.

Charlton looked as if they might take over top spot when a John Nutter own goal put them in front at Gillingham with only 11 minutes remaining.
It was a lead that lasted only three minutes, however, with Simeon Jackson's shot getting past Robert Elliot.

Colchester are up to third following a 2-1 home win over Walsall as MK Dons crashed 3-1 at Southampton.
Kevin Lisbie scored both of Colchester's goals, first after 26 minutes and then the winner from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute after Josh Payne had been fouled by Mark Hughes. Walsall's 28th minute equaliser had come from Darren Byfield.

Southampton fell behind just before the interval to a Jason Puncheon shot, but dominated the second half and scored through Dean Hammond (56), Richard Lambert (74) and substitute David Connolly at the end of added time.

Elsewhere, goals either side of half-time from Charlie MacDonald and Myles Weston ended Brentford's losing run in a 2-0 win over Stockport at Griffin Park.

Pawel Abbott and Reuben Hazell netted to seal a 2-0 victory for Oldham at Brighton, while centre-back Terrell Forbes was Yeovil's matchwinner as they came from behind to beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 at Memorial Stadium.

Chris Martin's fifth goal of the season secured Norwich a 1-0 victory over Swindon in a dull encounter while Carlisle ended a run of seven league games without a win with a much-needed 2-1 victory against injury-hit Southend at Brunton Park.

Winger Gary Roberts scored one goal and laid on another two as Huddersfield thrashed Leyton Orient 4-0 at the Galpharm while Peter Hartley's first goal for Hartlepool secured his hometown club's second home victory of the season with a 1-0 defeat of Tranmere.

Exeter and Wycombe played out a 1-1 draw with Barry Corr heading the equaliser in the dying moments

Barry Conlon stole a point for 10-man Grimsby with a goal deep into injury time as they drew 2-2 at home to Accrington in League Two on Friday.

Bournemouth went three points clear in League Two after a 3-1 victory over struggling Grimsby 3-1, with the Mariners' Paul Linwood scoring at both ends.

The result, along with 10-man Dagenham and Redbridge's 2-2 draw at Macclesfield, saw the Cherries extend their lead at the top of the league.
Alan Connell put Bournemouth in front after 27 minutes and a Linwood own goal seven minutes later made it 2-0.
The same player had the ball in the same net in the 51st minute to bring Grimsby back into it and it was three minutes from time before the home side made the points safe through Brett Pitman.

Dagenham's game saw eight bookings and two players sent off with two of the four goals coming from penalties.
Daggers midfielder Abu Ogogo was dismissed by referee Oliver Langford after just 10 minutes for violent conduct after a foul on Hamza Bencherif
who was substituted three minutes later, and Macclesfield capitalised on their advantage to take a 2-0 lead.
First Mathew Tipton, who came on for Bencherif, scored from the spot after being fouled himself in the 31st minute and then Reneil Sappleton added the next midway through the second half.
Wesley Thomas gave Dagenham hope 11 minutes from time and after Tipton had been sent off two minutes from the end of normal time for a second bookable offence, Ross Draper handballed and Mark Arber saved a point.

Rochdale stay third after losing 2-1 at home to Accrington Stanley, while Notts County and Rotherham are level on points just behind them after County defeated Crewe 2-0 and Rotherham lost 2-1 at Bury.

Ismail Yakubu's second-half header set Barnet on course for a 3-0 win against struggling Darlington while Bradford rallied to end their two-match losing run with a 1-0 win over Hereford at Valley Parade on Saturday - despite going down to 10 men.

Chesterfield got back to winning ways with a thrilling 5-2 victory over Burton Albion while Shrewsbury did likewise to leapfrog 10-man Aldershot with a 3-1 success at New Meadow.

Northampton were 4-2 winners at Morecambe while the matches between Lincoln and Torquay and Port Vale and Cheltenham were drawn.

Darlington's 3-0 defeat at Barnet keeps them five points adrift at the bottom

Leeds moved seven points clear at the top of Coca-Cola League One thanks to a 4-0 win over Yeovil on Saturday.
It took Bradley Johnson 42 minutes to break the deadlock but second-half goals from Max Gradel, Jermaine Beckford and Tresor Kandol proved more than enough for Simon Grayson's side.

And the Whites' day was made even better by a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Carlisle for nearest rivals Charlton.
Ian Harte put the hosts ahead at the second attempt four minutes before the break after Carl Ikeme had saved his penalty but Deon Burton levelled with a spot-kick of his own shortly after.
Graham Kavanagh's experience told in the second half as his brace helped Carlisle move away from the bottom four.

MK Dons moved level on points with the Addicks following a 2-1 victory over Bristol Rovers.
All three goals came in the final 19 minutes, with Peter Leven's penalty and a long-ranger from Jason Puncheon putting the Dons two up before Darryl Duffy headed in a last-gasp consolation.

Paul Ince's side leapfrogged Colchester, who went down to a 2-1 defeat against fellow promotion challengers Millwall.
Anthony Wordsworth gave the Us the lead 18 minutes in from a free-kick but Alan Dunne levelled and James Henry snatched all three points for the Lions in injury time.

Fifth-placed Norwich made it five wins from six in the league with a 3-1 victory at Stockport.
A brace from Grant Holt and Wes Hoolahan's penalty proved more than enough for Paul Lambert's side despite Peter Thompson netting for the hosts.

Billy Paynter netted twice in a 4-1 victory over Tranmere as Swindon made it another bad day for Rovers.
Paynter put the visitors two up in the first half and Anthony McNamee made it three with 25 minutes left.
Chris Shuker gave Tranmere a sniff of a point by pulling one back but Simon Ferry's injury-time fourth ensured another hammering for the strugglers.

Bottom side Wycombe also slumped to another defeat, despite being 2-0 up at half-time against Walsall.
Reading loanee Scott Davies netted a brace to put the hosts seemingly in control at Adams Park but Steve Jones set home nerves jangling 10 minutes after the break and Mark Hughes and Alex Nicholls completed a late turnaround.

A see-saw tussle ended all square as Brighton and Hartlepool drew 3-3.
Adam Boyd put the visitors ahead before Liam Dickinson and Nicky Forster turned things in Albion's favour.
Andy Monkhouse quickly levelled and incredibly Ritchie Jones struck in injury time to make it five goals in 45 minutes.
The second half was quiet in comparison, with Forster's second three minutes after the break the only goal.

Rickie Lambert salvaged a point for Southampton with a brace in a 2-2 draw against Leyton Orient after Tamika Mkandawire and a Neal Trotman own goal had put the Os two up.

Exeter moved level on 17 points with Brentford after a thumping 3-0 win over the Bees achieved despite Marcus Stewart's sending off.

Rochdale closed to within two points of Bournemouth after hammering the Cherries 4-0 in Saturday's big game at the top of League Two.
Chris Dagnall gave Dale the lead on the stroke of half-time and the visitors ran away with the second half.
A double from Chris O'Grady and one from Simon Whaley completed the scoring, although Dale's day was soured slightly by a red card for Nathan Stanton.

Dagenham and Redbridge dropped to third after they needed a late goal from Josh Scott to secure a 1-1 draw with Port Vale, who led through Louis Dodds' 38th-minute strike.

Big-spending Notts County could also only manage a point as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Shrewsbury.
It was a similar story for the Magpies as Jamie Devitt put the Shrews ahead before Graeme Lee equalised five minutes from time.

County stayed level with Rotherham on 26 points after Ronnie Moore's side made it four games without a win in a goalless draw against Aldershot, while Burton and Bury also drew a blank.

Chesterfield climbed into the top seven thanks to Scott Boden's 64th-minute strike in a 1-0 win over Barnet, who dropped to eighth.

Bradford fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Macclesfield. Colin Daniel and Hamza Bencherif put the hosts in control at the break but goals from James Hanson and Steve Williams earned the Bantams a point.

Crewe moved away from the strugglers in thumping style after hammering Cheltenham 4-0.
The sides were level on points at the start of proceedings but a brace from Calvin Zola and strikes from Steven Schumacher and Danny Shelley ensured the visitors ended the day firmly on top.

Bottom side Darlington suffered their fifth defeat in six league games at the hands of Hereford.

Darlington are now nine points off safety after Torquay beat Northampton 1-0 thanks to Chris Hargreaves' 83rd-minute header.

Morecambe also pulled away from the bottom two thanks to a 3-1 win over fellow strugglers Lincoln.
Stewart Drummond, Phil Jevons (penalty) and Paul Mullin put the Shrimps three up with less than an hour gone.
Rene Howe pulled one back but Lincoln finished the game with 10 men after Eric Lichaj saw red

Korey Smith boosted Norwich's Coca-Cola League One promotion push with the only goal at Wycombe on Saturday.
Smith slotted home Wes Hoolahan's cut-back in the 77th minute to earn a victory which takes the Canaries up to second in the table.

Hartlepool earned a 2-1 win over Oldham in the only other game to go ahead in the division on Saturday.
Andy Monkhouse crossed for Ritchie Jones to head Hartlepool in front after 32 minutes and added the second himself five minutes before the break.
But Peter Hartley was sent off seven minutes from time for an off-the-ball incident and Pawel Abbott pulled a goal back in the dying stages. Pools, though, withstood a late onslaught to earn victory.

Leyton Orient's clash with Yeovil and Walsall's game against Charlton fell victim to the freezing weather

Bournemouth missed out on the chance to put pressure on Coca-Cola League Two leaders Rochdale as they went down 2-0 at home to Northampton on Saturday.
With Dale's game against Rotherham falling foul of the weather, the Cherries had the opportunity to move within two points of the summit.
But Billy McKay set up Luke Guttridge for a fifth-minute opener and Ryan Gilligan fired in the second inside 16 minutes to sink Eddie Howe's side.

Shrewsbury moved into fourth, within a point of the third-placed Millers, after Dave Hibbert converted Shane Cansdell-Sherriff's cross (38) to earn them a 1-0 win at Chesterfield.
The Shrews survived half an hour with 10 men after Dean Holden was dismissed after bringing down Kieran Djilali as the last man.

Grimsby were denied a first league win since September 19 by Ryan Lowe's last-minute penalty for Bury at Blundell Park.
Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro's goal on the hour appeared to have ended the Mariners' barren run, but Lowe was fouled by Robert Atkinson and picked himself up to beat Nick Colgan and earn the Shakers a 1-1 draw.

Grimsby's fellow strugglers Cheltenham shared the same scoreline with Bradford.
James O'Brien volleyed in Simon Ramsden's cross to give the Bantams a 35th-minute lead but Steve Williams' foul on Justin Richards earned the defender a second yellow card and allowed Richards to equalise from the spot (54).

Darlington v Port Vale, Hereford v Crewe and Macclesfield v Morecambe joined Rochdale's game in being called off.

Ryan Harley's double condemned runaway leaders Leeds to just their second defeat League One of the season as Exeter pulled off a major shock.
The 24-year-old defender put the Grecians, who started the game in 18th place, ahead with just four minutes gone, and then made sure of a famous victory with seven minutes remaining.

Leeds started the day six points clear at the top and defending a 17-game unbeaten run in all competitions, but they ended it with second-placed Norwich having closed the gap to just three.
They did so by smashing five past Colchester at Layer Road as manager Paul Lambert, who was in charge of the Essex club when they won 7-1 at Carrow Road on the opening day of the season, saw Chris Martin's brace put the visitors 2-0 up at the break.
But things went from bad to worse for the home side, who were trailing 3-0 to Gary Doherty's 49th-minute effort when home debutant Ian Henderson was sent off for a late tackle on Darel Russell.
Oli Johnson and Grant Holt completed the rout, and the Canaries could even afford the luxury of Wes Hoolahan's penalty miss.

Norwich were not the only side to score five on their travels as MK Dons maintained their promotion challenge with victory by the same score at Hartlepool.
Former Pool striker Jermaine Easter put the visitors ahead inside four minutes and Gary Liddle's own goal left Chris Turner's side with a mountain to climb.
They never looked like scaling it and second-half strikes from Peter Leven, substitute Sam Baldock and Jason Puncheon eased the Dons home.

Charlton kept pace with Norwich as they returned from lowly Wycombe with a 2-1 victory.
Jonjo Shelvey put them ahead with 11 minutes gone and although Jon-Paul Pittman levelled after the break, Nick Bailey won it with 13 minutes remaining.

Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes claimed a double as the Terriers beat Southend 2-1 at the Galpharm Stadium, while Swindon cruised to a 3-1 home win over Gillingham with goals from Charlie Austin and Scott Cuthbert and Billy Paynter's penalty.

The drama arrived late at the New Den where Rickie Lambert's 92nd-minute strike looked to have handed Southampton victory before loan signing Liam Trotter equalised for Millwall three minutes later.

Brighton ran out 2-1 winners at Walsall, but there was no happy awayday for Carlisle, who went down 3-1 at Brentford.

First-half goals from Stephen Dawson and David Worrall helped Bury climb into the League Two play-off race as Bournemouth passed up the chance to boost their own promotion hopes.
The second-placed Cherries went into the game at the Fitness First Stadium hoping to take advantage of leaders Rochdale's lay-off following the postponement of their home clash with Port Vale.
However, Dawson's ninth-minute opener and Worrall's strike six minutes before the break saw the visitors home and into sixth despite Brett Pitman's injury-time consolation strike.

Dagenham and Redbridge took the opportunity to close the gap on Bournemouth to six points with a 2-0 home win over Crewe.
Josh Scott's 35th-minute glancing header put the hosts in front, and when Danny Green made it 2-0 six minutes later, the points were safe.

Shrewsbury's hopes of climbing into the top three were dealt a blow when they were held to a 1-1 draw at 10-man Burton.
Dave Hibbert's header had given the visitors a 27th-minute advantage, and Burton's chances of launching a fightback looked slim when Guy Branston was dismissed for a second bookable offence inside three minutes.
However, Greg Pearson levelled 15 minutes from time to snatch a point.

Chesterfield edged past Torquay to stay in the hunt for the play-off places in a tight encounter at the Recreation Ground.
Loan signing Barry Conlon scored the game's only goal with 72 minutes gone to take his side into seventh place.

There was a precious victory for lowly Lincoln as they dragged themselves a little further clear of the battle for League Two survival.
Chris Sutton's side started the day in 22nd place, just four points better off than second-bottom Grimsby.
However, they headed away from Barnet having extended that margin, thanks to a dramatic 2-1 win.
City went ahead on the half-hour through defender Cian Hughton, the son of Newcastle boss Chris, but were pegged back with 15 minutes remaining by Ismail Yakubu's header.
However, there was a twist in the tale when substitute Lenny John-Lewis headed home Joe Anderson's cross three minutes into stoppage time.

Cheltenham will have been the happier after their bottom-of-the-table trip to Grimsby ended goalless draw.
The home side missed a first-half penalty when Michael Leary struck his spot-kick against the bar, and the visitors left with a point despite having Ashley Eastham sent off for two bookable offences.

On another frustrating day for the League Two clubs, only six games survived following a series of pitch inspections

It's becoming a bit of a habit isnt it

Beckford has been pretty average of late. I did get to watch the Yeovil game as it was on Fox the other night. Jermaine was pretty quiet, but was taking 2 or 3 defenders with him every time the ball went to him, which opened up space for Max Gradel to tear them apart.
Robert Snodgrass is a class above the rest in league 1.

Took them a while to get on top of southend Pidge and they had a few scares in the 1st half too. Had southend actually known where the goals were they could have been 2 up at half time.

I listened to the last hour of the game online. They did have a few chances, but the class of Leeds came through and we had a solid victory.

I think we're about to hit form and hopefully go on a run which sees us one step closer to where we belong.

We miss Kisnorbo immensely. He's our best player.
