Any coach is only as good as the players on the park. Lets just wait until at least the squad has played a couple of trials before
Eagle supporters get upbeat. Beware and remember do not count the "eaglettes" until they hatch.

Yes but we need to have "HOPE"
Without "HOPE" we may well have kept Ron .
This way the club is moving forward things look good.

at last some sense posted.......

as a member I also find it pathetic continually bagging an ex coach of our club that brought success and a winning culture......

something that 7 other clubs found it difficult to achieve in the time Ron was there.....

just get on with it and pay the man some respect for what he did for our club!

Ron Fuller has the runs on the board. Godden has nothing. Yet. You can say what you like about Fuller but the fact remains he brought us a premiership and we rarely missed the finals. Godden has extremely high standards he will have to match.

Good to see some other Eagles fans showing some respect.

The fact is, whether or not he was liked by the players, Fuller had their respect, and was the most successful coach in the clubs history.

I hope Godden can continue the culture, but i just get the feeling some fans don't quite realise how good we have had it over the last decade, and really there is no guarantees at all.

Especially with how we have recruited this year, i think we might not be as strong as some are predicting. Having said that, i like the look of Godden, and hope he can guide us to success.

At the risk of having certain people from other SANFL clubs go off at me ,I will have a reply . ;)
I am only posting what I am seeing at training. It appears to be a totally different attitude and atmosphere from the playing group.
Recruiting as stated above might prove to be a problem .Personally I think it will take some time for the older players who have only played under Ron to adjust to the new game plan. Not so much the youngsters or players new to the club. But as "Gods" said on the meet the coach night he expects this to be the case.
But saying that veterans like CICA have a modified training program.Has that ever been done at the Eagles before .I don't think so. And if that helps Cica to stay fit in what should or could be his final yeah .then I applaud the coach or whoever decided to put that in place.
And the talk is all players will need to earn their Spots in the team no matter who you are. This has not always been the case under the old Coach .And no I wont name players that is not fair to the playing group.
I think also the playing group will be fitter this year than last year. But only time will tell on that front.
Eagles imho will finish anywhere from 6th upwards(at this stage) and if we make the finals in "GODS" first year .That will be the bonus .Because once the final series starts anything can happen.

Thats how I see it .

He certainly played well against Norwood later in the year and in the games I saw on telly even with that noted no-hoper in Fuller still coaching.

Will the first game between South and the Eagles be the first time anyone other than those two sets of supporters takes notice of the result? A Panthers win might shut a few people up I reckon.

I think Rob Fiacchi has joined brother Pete in retirement and Brad Dabrowski retired due to work with the Police force.

I also think Sam Fairclough has gone to SAAFL club Henley and of course Ken McGregor retired as well...

Mickyj modified training programs for older players have been going on for years. Colville is the obvious one that springs to mind

Yes definately. Pretty much all players towards the end of their careers have managed workloads. Paul Lindsay basically couldn't train in his last few years. He still managed to be as fit as possible through other methods, and play well.

I also don't understand your point Micky about players earning their spot. If each player has to earn a spot in the team, no matter who they are, yet certain players are having specific training programs, it doesn't send a clear message in my opinion.

last few years before he retired from the Eagles sorry mate. He looks after his body very well so i'm not surprised he's still playing good footy. maybe due to a modified program. We could probably use him at the moment.

Was that the no-hoper that won the Eagles second ever flag and coached them to numerous grand finals?

I still remember about four years ago the Panthers had 17 imports in their league team of 21 ???????????????????

I like how other teams fans come in to an Eagles topic and bag the club.
Just because its a SA Footy topic doesn't mean they have to read or post in it .
Perhaps if South had a topic of their own. Klaan might find out how the new south VFL recruits especially the two who had injuries pre pre season are now doing.I could ask my source at work tomorrow seeing south start training again today ;)

Mickeyj - did you ever get an answer re the progress of Souths injury ridled, stuggling VFL recruits? I understand 3 of them are leading the clubs B&F at the moment. Suggest even if one of the injury was a missing leg, they would still be capable of more damage then Guilhaus ... worst player to pull on an SANFL jumper since that old slow ruckman that played a few games for South last year (I don't mean Parry either)
So Bunton will bet any money rah rah rah . The way I see it , we can think of Parrys transfer money as Fullers severance package to dump him off to the Ponthers ; we have upgraded big time with a full time , young approachable bloke that has the players and supporters switched on . Fuller didnt , its that simple . Were united now and you can look forward to long boring years of the same one way or no way footy that Fuller made an art form at Oval Ave . Enjoy playing with your cutlery , spoon boy

Only early days, but must say that I can not believe the agles so readily accepted Fuller's resignation .... They love him down at South

Rather than do that why not talk to your players .I work with a south player that was shocked that your club has no ruckman .
But hey bet you dont make fun of south now would u ?
