An interesting event happened at the womens cricket on Monday night, a lady hit the ball to mid-on, upon contact with the ball her brand new bat snapped at the handle, straight across (not the splice), the broken part of the bat then went on and knocked the stumps down. In 25 years of playing and watching cricket, this was a first and had everyone bamboozled.

Sort of, the shot had been played, she wasn't in the process of playing the stroke as it happened.

I would give it out as the shot caused the bat to break, which then fell on the wicket - no different if the ball hits the helmet and it falls onto the stumps - strange yes but I think under the laws you would be on your way

I would say that you are correct, given the circumstance and the fact of her brand new bat being snapped, she was allowed to continue batting, if I was captain of a fielding side and this occured, I'd allow the batsman to continue, you'd have to be a prick to let them walk.
