Ronald Mcdonald cancer appeal

Saturday 18/11/06 Mcdonalds are donating $1 for every Big Mac sold on the day
and the donation goes towards kids cancer.
I think any business that donates profits towards a worthy cause should be
totally commended.
The Ronald Mcdonald donations over the years have been very generous

But I just dont know about the concept, its contradicting and slightly hippercritical
that the junk food conglomerate does this.
After all isint eating junk food a possible contributing cause to cancer

So I have to eat a burger for the $1 donation, no thanks.

At least on safooty a few of the lads in the weight loss challenge have
pledged to donate $1 a kilo[or more ?] and this is far more honourable.

OK LETS SHOW OUR PLEDGE EVERYBODY AND UPDATE THE WEIGHT LOSS
CHALLENGE EVERY FRIDAY AND THEN DONATE THE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to the Mcdemott/Mcguiness foundation.
Think of those kids please.

Thanks for making me aware Mal, I usually stop at Hungrys, KFC or the pub before a game of lawn bowls but I'll buy a couple of big macs instead now.
I don't think any creditable studies have linked Big Macs with cancer.
If they have, let me know and I'll head back to Hungrys, KFC or the pub.

I'm a regular diner at Subway mal, whats the goss on their food?

Just on Subway, I dont have any goss but there's a place in Flinders St called STAX and its similar to Subway BUT it has much more variety, ie aspargus, avocado, sun dried tomatoes, etc, etc, etc, etc and its cheaper!
I do good business at the place, usually get them in a tortilla instead of a roll though.

Burger King used to run their commercials on Fox ... Which made for one red-faced viewer who walked into HJ's asking for the "New Burger you've been advertising" ... When the young chick behind the counter had no idea what I was talking about I thought "Yep, typical", until the others worked out it was I who had made the mistake ... Nice one!!

You just have to be cynical about corporate giants like McDonalds who do their 'good global citizen' bit by running charities that (a) offer tax relief and (b) balance out the general evilness of the rest of their core business. A little like the bikies who dress up like Santa once a year and deliver stuffed elephants to sick kids.

In both cases they have chosen charities that are beyond criticism (very smart, who's going to criticise someone giving money to cancer victims?) but also in both cases, their number one motive I would argue is not to 'help the kids', but to provide a smokescreen for the rest of their dodgy dealings. The fact that it provides a lot of benefit to sick kiddies and their families would be seen as an added bonus, secondary though to their main aim (which they pump millions into) of making themselves look good in the eyes of Joe Public.

And please don't say "Oooohh, but they do a lot of good". I KNOW they do, but that's the point. They do a lot of bad too and no amount of Australian Idols visiting Ronald McDonald House is going to change that, much as they'd like it to.

Mind you, I had a McChicken after the U2 concert the other night and it was fantastic!

Visited Munno Parra + Gawler Mcdonalds today between 2-3 oclock
both stores packed out, I politely told staff I was not buying a burger
and put my $1 in the Ronald Mcddonald collection tins instead.
There was a fire engine at Munno letting little kids get on board NICE

Whilst there I picked up the pamphlet on OUR FOOD and that has a section
called Make up your own mind.
2 pages of defending themselves, why are they defending
Some of the biggest crap Ive read, saying they buy apples, meats milks
from quality suppliers etc.
ITS NOT WHERE THEY BUY THE INGREDIENTS FROM ITS WHAT THEY DO
TO IT AND HOW THEY COOK IT etc.

For example....All our Fillett-o-Fish are made with premuim Hoki or Pollock fish
caught in and around New Zealand and Alaska......[the fish is also cod in some other countries]

i mean HUNGRY JACKS came out and said that they werent going 'HEALTHY' as MACCAS have with their menu, yet when they did the comparisons between burgers between the two some of MACCAS burgers which are meant to be healthier were WORSE

we all know when we go to those places that it is bad and everybody except MACCAS and SUBWAY wants to admit it
