SA v England

First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

Postby Adelaide Hawk » Sun Nov 19, 2006 12:20 pm

England 8/412 Bailey got Flintoff for 47.

Attention M.Elliott, D.Harris, C.Ferguson ... your 1st class careers are teetering on the edge, time to get some much needed batting form in the middle. Would be nice to see Cosgrove make a score as well.

Yes, it's a 1st class game. The reason the previous match wasn't 1st class was because they used more than 11 players in each side.

Elliott dropped by butter-fingers Pietersen on 11. I heard Blewett say on ABC that Pietersen was generally regarded as a very good catcher ... by who????? The guy would have trouble catching a bus.

0/16 Elliott 11 Harris 5

Hopefully Harris gets a few runs and some of the other top order batsmen spend some time in the middle.

Well, if that don't beat all.

SA 2/164 Harris 71 Ferguson 7.

Two batsmen out in the middle desperate for centre wicket practice, and desperate for a score .... and they call the game off with an hour to spare. What sort of Mickey Mouse affair is this??!! Harris had a chance to make a 1st class 100 and they just walk off the ground.

And what about the people who paid their money to see 6 HOURS of cricket? Do they get a refund because the players would rather bowl to that Munchkin Nugget Rees than play the Poms? I've actually had a gutful of the Redbacks, they are a fair dinkum joke.

is he BACK?????????????????

I dont know who was calling for Elliott to be dropped but he has made a 50 against an international bowling attack, this must surely secure his place for the remainder of the season???

One half century secure his spot for the rest of the season :?

Gillespie made an unbeaten double hundred against an international bowling attack but he has been dropped for the next game after that

Great motivational post, I wonder if the 3 guys read it.

All I can say about this game was 3 days is not enough.
When a captain declares at 7/240 odd, that means this game was a farce.

Some well presented facts, good report.

I havent a problem with playing 2 spinners + no third seamer.
I havent a problem declaring charitably at 7 wickets down.
I havent a problem bowling Tait into the ground?
I havent a problem bowling Daniel Harris first change.

I have a problem when these things happen in pura/cup games.

3 DAY GAMES ARE A FARCE
Lehmann declares 7/247
England bats to 400+
SA 1/164

I am really disgusted with the game being called off at 4-30.

DANIEL HARRIS 71 NOT OUT
Here we have a promising kid on the verge of making 100 [his first?]
trying to become a permanant member of the team and we call the game
off an hour early. Who cares if he gets dismissed 71 not out is almost as good
as an 80 dismissed.
100 would have propelled the kids career.

So the 3 day game is called of early, give me a break.
Im sure the spectatators there would be a little upset as well.

NEWS FLASH. This game was all about England. The Redbacks, and the Blues before them were mere window dressing. Some of the bleating going on in this thread is ridiculous, after all there were some positives for the Backs.

1. Elliot finally got a few
2. Harris got a few
3. Tait pressed his claims for selection
4. That first innings fight back, SA cold have got rolled for 90.
5. Cullen finally got some overs under his belt.

This game is always going to be what England could get out of it and the fact that SA still managed to get something out of the game should be viewed as positive. Not happy with an early finish to a glorified practice session four days out from the first test? Vote with your feet and stay home.

regards,

REB
