We have fixed terms in SA the election is on March 20th the Premier can no longer call an election at his/her whim. When wil the election campaign start is probably more accurate. I'd say its already started un-officially.

Just get it all done with ASAP please.

Labor have got real or potential scandals everywhere and there's a real concern that something big will break soon and bring them down. They are not worthy of being re-elected.

The Libs are an absolute joke and have no policies. They are not worthy of being elected.

Any vote for the Greens or anyone else will spill over to the clowns mentioned above because of our so-called democratic preference system.

Isn't democracy wonderful ... please shoot me.

Only because Labor keep stealing them. You will find that the Liberal policies will be released closer to the election so Labor cannot copy them. Mike Smithson is correct about the south bank - they only commissioned a plan after the Liberals released their plan and they are fast tracking it to release it before the election. This government is devoid of ideas and are nothing short of idea thieves and mimics. Their major plan is to attack Isobel Redmond because of Rann's self destruction - and guess what - there's more to come on that front.........................

The promises are coming thick and fast now ...

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/southern- ... 5831294904

PREMIER Mike Rann has announced a $445 million duplication of Adelaide's one-way Southern Expressway.
Mr Rann is currently holding a press conference to outline the details.

It trumps plans from the Opposition to announce a similar plan at noon.

Construction is expected to begin by the end of next year and be completed by 2014.

No comment on how he intends to fund it

He questions every Liberal promise but never says how he intends to fund his promises

About freaking time anyway

One mob is an arrogant mess, the other is just plain stupid.

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/in-d ... 5831351272

THE Liberals have dropped the ball on the Southern Expressway by vowing to duplicate the road - but refusing to give any details today.
Liberal finance spokesman Rob Lucas said the party would match Labor's promise to duplicate the carriageway but first needed to reassess its costings on the policy.

In a moment of political farce, messages had been sent to the media this morning cancelling a planned expressway announcement until the afternoon.

But the announcement was again deferred at the 2pm press conference, when Mr Lucas turned up instead of Opposition Leader Isobel Redmond and Treasury spokesman Steven Griffiths.

Mr Lucas said the Liberals would now announce a policy to duplicate the expressway later in the campaign but would not say when or give any details of the plan, arguing the Liberals needed to check their costings because the Government had suddenly found more money in the Budget.

Earlier, Ms Redmond was given a golden opportunity to beat the Premier to the punch on the expressway announcement - but surrendered the tactical advantage to her rival.

Appearing on ABC's 891 Mornings program today, Ms Redmond was quizzed about a $275 million plan to duplicate the road after the Liberals were tipped off that Mr Rann had scheduled a press conference.

But a coy Ms Redmond refused to commit to the plan, saying today was not the time for a major announcement.

"I'm not making any announcements this morning," she said.

"I'm no longer in charge of my own destiny and I know that there's a timetable about things that are being announced."

It is understood Ms Redmond's media adviser Andrew Coombe received a tip the Government was planning an announcement on the same project.

It is understood Coombe, who was outside the studio, knocked repeatedly on the door to alert producers and, once he had their attention, insisted a note be passed to Ms Redmond to alert her to the imminent Labor announcement.

A producer then passed a note to presenter David Bevan, rather than Ms Redmond, because the ABC program has a policy of not allowing media advisers into the studio.

"I've just been passed a note saying that you have plans for the Southern Expressway. Can you explain what they are?" Bevan said.

"This note says that you plan to duplicate the Southern Expressway at a cost of $275 million in the first term."

Ms Redmond refused to commit to the plan, and just over an hour later Premier Mike Rann announced a $445 million overhaul for the same road.

The Liberals then cancelled their planned noon press conference, later hastily rescheduling it for 2pm.

Shortly before midday, Coombe said the Liberals were re-examining their policy after the Government's announcement.

"We're looking at the financials of the Government's announcement of finding $445 million in a hollow log under Kevin Foley's desk," said Coombe.

At the latest press conference, Mr Lucas said Transport Minister Patrick Conlon had announced late last year that it would cost $270 milliion to duplicate the Expressway.

But Mr Lucas said Labor was now saying it would cost $90 million more than that, prompting the Liberals' need to reassess costings.

The Liberals must win 10 seats to win government in their own right.

They include the southern suburbs seats of Mawson, Bright and Mitchell. The Liberals currently hold the southern seat of Davenport with a 6.5 per cent margin.

Both parties are looking to the south as a critical battleground and Labor knows if it can shore up those three key seats, Ms Redmond's chances of becoming Premier are greatly diminished.

By making the announcement first, the Government has stolen bragging rights and can claim the idea with more authority than their opponents.

Ms Redmond has placed herself at a major campaign disadvantage even before the campaign proper has begun.

It's hardly a mortal wound - in fact so what?

For the first time in 4 years, Labor announced a plan before the Libs

I think they were going to say that it would only cost $275m but Labor are saying it would cost $445m so they have had to go back and check the numbers. Labor have probably put an extra 50 trees in

The State Election will be held on Saturday March 20, 2010.

An election can be called anytime from Monday January 25 at the earliest, to Saturday February 20 at the latest.

What date are you tipping it will be officially called, and why then?

Looks like they went for the last possible date then O:)
