Unbelievable performance.

Clean sheet away from home.

van Dijk off the mark.

Eugene hardly touches the ball all game but then makes a brilliant save at the death.

Leckie scores his 2nd in 2 ACL games now, next stop Man Utd? ;)

to you soccer experts out there, adelaide has had a bad year, (in the a league) does this mean that the asian teams in general are worse than the australian teams or is it that they're just putting in ?

Not sure what utd has been on for the last 2 weeks but I want some!!!!

The Japanese league, south Korean league, Saudi, Kuwaiti, Iraqi and uzbekistani leagues are all far better than the a league. The Chinese, dpr Korea are probably slightly better. The main reason is that these leagues either don't have a salary cap or it is far higher than ours.

This was a great performance by utd. Next game against the Japanese side sanfrecce Hiroshima will be tough but we're at home so a good chance. A win and we'll be through to the last 16!

Ill be more than happy if the Victory stick to winning the A-League and build a dynasty much like Central.

IMO - the salary cap in Australia is a good thing. If it was lifted, we'd see 2-3 dominate year in year out and the rest would be a revolving door of new entrants IMO, as weaker teams would fold.

I don't think the support is strong enough for clubs like Adelaide, Perth, NQ, Newcastle, CCM etc to allow them to compete with the likes of Melbourne, Synde and GC if there was no salary cap. Some of these sides would fold and Australian Football would return to the shambles it was in the NSL days.

I think we need a salary cap for at least another 10 years, but I have no problem with it being increased steadily over that period.

I totally agree, the salary cap is the best thing the A-League has done, my point more was that having a salary cap gives the aussie teams a distinct disadvantage when playing in the champions league.

yeah agree most of the other leagues are of a better standard than ours.

What i think Adelaide does brilliantly in the Asian Champions League is they play a very congested, pressurised, pyshical style of game, while its not pretty the Asian teams struggle with the physical presence of the aussie blokes and can't play their natural free flowing style. The genius part about it is that Adelaide do have the pace in Dodd, Leckie and Pantelitis to hit teams on the counter which they have scored from twice already this season. Another part to their tactic imho is that the pyshical style really saps the energy from these asian teams who are use to running out 90 minutes with alot less contact.

This is similar reasons to why i think we have seen Melbourne struggle so far in Asia, they continue to play their continental style which is hugely successful in Aus because they are so much mroe skilled than any other side, yet in Asia their skill level falls back to the pack. With blokes like Muscat and Vargas Melbourne need to take a more defensive ugly approach similar to Adelaide, Melbourne won't though they are set about playing sexy football.
