Good to see that the 2006 batch of Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale is now out. Tastes great but is not for the faint hearted - about 7.8% Alcohol Volume and 2.4 standard drinks per stubbie. No doubt they will be serving it on tap again at the Cooper's Alehouse. Just in case you read this Constance, yes I will be refraining for a while.
Also good to see that the Cooper's Sparkling Ale won "World cup of beers" competition while the World Cup Football was on.

In the UK I have been trying as many different beers as possible. Traditional bitters are hard to get used to over here, but they make a nice change from lager. I rememeber when I was 16 on my first trip to the UK i tried Oxford Bitter and it had clumps of sediment bigger than 20 cent pieces.
Last year I was put on to SOL beer (which is actually the beer of choice in Mexico, not Corona as most people think). They have just started selling it at various pubs in Adelaide over Xmas and it is quality.

As far as English beer Carling is easy to drink, but only 4.1%. I love the fact I can get a proper sized pint of Grolsch over in Britain for cheaper than I can get a pussy pint in Adelaide. I also bought 20 bottles of Stella for £10 (approx $24 aust) which is fantastic value for a quality beer!!! Becks is the same price as Stella, so we are getting ripped off back home in Oz.

Aussie Beers I prefer would be TED, Carlton Draught, Carlton Premium Dry and Coopers Lager. Crownies and TED's are sold at a fair few pubs in the UK now which is great also!

As a West Aussie I take my hat off to SA for the beers they produce. They leave West Australia's for dead.

Every time I visit Adelaide (which has been frequently in recent times) I look forward to a nice cold West End Draught!

My favourite SA brews in order of preference are:-

1. West End Export - are they still making it?
2. West End Draught - SA's base model but a great drop
3. Southwark Stout - tried it just once 18mths ago and was impressed. Again are they still putting this out?
4. Coopers Special Stout - I love Stout and this has to be one of the best I've tried. You can get it in Perth too.
5. Coopers Pale - very refreshing

Agreed!!

I mean, I will drink it - but it's not a great choice.

I bought myself a slab of James Boags Premium the other week, full price too. I splurged! First time I'd had more than one of them and it went down like silk.

(PAFC1870 - your brother prefered it to his Pales he bought! :) )

Try Emu Export, Emu Bitter or Swan Draught and you'll learn to appreciate West End Draught in no time :D .

These are my 5 best and worst Australian beers in order:-

Best
Fosters Lager (can't believe how many people bag it!!), West End Draught, Coopers Special Stout, Melbourne Bitter, Victoria Bitter

Worst
Tooheys Extra Dry, Carlton Cold, Hahn Premium Light, Emu Draft (WA 3.5% beer), Emu Export Lager

As a general rule I cant stand cold filtered beers in clear bottles. They taste terrible.

I dont think Pales are really his beer of choice.

I dont mind Pales, but dont rate it higher than other beers. My beer of choice is Coopers Dark Ale.

some good beers here lads, add them together and what a hangover, for mine its:

sparkling
pale
nastro azurro
becks
hahn premium
coopers dark
and the odd bud (no more than a sixer, start to taste like crud)

funny though, not a big fan of coopers from a bottle, more a pint man. the others, bottles are sweet.

worst beers, west end from a can i swear you can taste the aluminium. VB- shit, not a fan of carlton draught, XXXX can f#*k off to QLD and stay there. and worst of all aussie fosters, ive heard the fosters overseas actually goes alright. they export the good stuff and leave the dregs for us..

all said and done ill be drinking draught tomorrow at the cricket.

I had the pleasure of meeting a wicked spanish number the other night at Martini Ristorante on The Parade. The name is something like Ahlambra & it comes in a green bottle, fantastic flavour & 6.4% alcohol too! If anyone wants any huge bargains on grog at the moment, get up to Skye Cellars at the top of The Parade. Some bottles of wine are being discounted by anything up to $6 per bottle, with cartons of Crownies thrown in at $1 a carton! I am going there tonight.
