Have Glenelg done any recruiting this off season

Postby Tiger Couple » Sun Dec 25, 2005 1:05 am

Have the Glenelg recruiting team actually signed anyone up for next season yet apart from the Mini Draft. I'm surprised we didn't pass there as well. What are they doing?

There seems to be a lot of talk of who other clubs have signed but not even a wisper from Glenelg.

I know we got rid of some experience players last year and we have some good kids coming through but who are the experienced players that will lead them and show them the way

Apparently, one of the mini league player's next door neighbours has agreed to fill in if they are short...

This topic should be taken off. What a stupid question. Circumcision banned under general discussion and this obviousness allowed on footy talk.

"Baby on board". Why dont you put a sign on ur car saying "adult on board" or "car stereo in use"?

recruiting !!!!!!!

Postby bayman » Sun Dec 25, 2005 6:35 pm

as far as i know we have recruited 2 players of vfl standard mcconnell & green, & sundqvuist back from sydney, obviuosly some players have got the chop, some have left including statham which is a blow in my opinion, the line i believe we are taking is the juniors are good enough given time to develope etc etc but i wonder what players think about coming to the bay they spoke to simon cox last year & he wouldn't comeback to adelaide 12 months later he signs with north so if you cant entice a former player how can you entice an interstate player ?(without giving them a brown paper bag full of cash) i remember the 70's & 80's when we were up the top they got who they wanted why because (in my opinion they were up the top) they had even signed greg williams if sydney hadn't picked him up from geelong he was a bay player so without the enticement of cash players will go to top sides to play finals & i think thats the bottom line & is the line the juniors will be good enough in time just for mickan to keep his job for the 3 years build it up get close to being a good consistent side then leave to the afl & fall flat on our face again !!!! just like noble did 'as soon as a better/more cash job becomes available i'm off' ? & remember he did it to the eagles a few years ago, merry christmas but dont get to merry !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good post bayman.

put it this way, in the last 7 or 8 years we've gone with both theories of:
- lets blood the youngsters and hardly recruit (stringer)
- lets go mental on recruiting and get the fans hopes up (simmons)

and both actions lead to the same outcome. forgive me for being pessimistic but if we get a bag of recruits or none at all i'll wait until September 2006 before assessing our recruiting department!!!

p.s. i reckon caven should put the boots on and hold down CHB!

Dissapointing as it looks like another long year down at the bay, haven't recruited anyone really (tranfer deals still need to be done on a couple apparently), but it's hard seen as they seem to get close and then someone else offers a lot more apparently (sometimes you wonder if these aren't just excuses made by people who made bad decisions), must be hard to recruit people to the club atm, but hopefully this will change soon. I would say without a doubt Norwood and us would be favourites for the spoon this year atm, hopefully we can sign at least one quality player appart from the two VFL players already mentioned, anyway anything can happen i guess it could be a blessing in disguise....Here's hoping....

Yeah, both of 'em got the arse before a second season.

With the money they aren't spending on recruits, could they build a new bar and toilet block?

Yeah that was the "official" word - but I heard various rumours that he jumped before he was pushed.
