Brooks is a brilliant attacking centre half back, full back, maybe a little bit skinny to play on the best tall forward but makes up for strentgh with great athletisim. Gets alot of the ball for a tall defender but isn't very penetrative when using it, prefers the handball. He also is very injury prone i don't remember two many times where he has strung more than 10 games in a row. This was the only reason he didn't play regular league, he never really strung enough games in a row in the ressies to build brilliant form.

Rick Butler is a great mate of mine finished last year playing for Kadina on absolute top dollar, more in one game there than an entire season at Central, came second in their best and fairest despite missing 5 games. Port Magpies have shown lots of interest in him, his currently considering their offer but it's hard for him, his a bulldog at heart we used to go to every game ever sincve we were 4 years old, so playing for the dreaded magpies is a tough decision for him.

This is interesting i googled new Central signing Nathan Grima a found this.

While the key forwards on both teams struggled in the wind, the
Devils' defence was outstanding.
Nathan Grima had the better of LeCras,

Intresting in that alot of people rate Port's new signing LeCras, so hopefully this Grima lad can really play.

Grima is certainly held in high regard, he can play both ends of the ground and reading some reports, some of the VFL scribes rate him as unlucky not to be on an AFL list

Agree Sydney-Dog,

I had a look on the Tasmania VFL website and he was named in their best 8 times despite only playing thirteen games, a by the reports i read i generally took the best half forward the opposition had, which obvioulsy in the VFL is genreally and AFL listed player. I'm very excited

On the other hand i looked at the Williamstown website where new signing Lachlan McGhie is from and wasn't som promising, he had an injury plauged year, didn't play any VFL seniors football, and was named on the bench every game he did play for teh Williamstown reserves. So im thinking that he might be a project ruckmen with the club banking on having AFL listed Griffen and Giles sharing the workload with McKenzie all year.

Also Hudson and Kerr might have their time in the League throughout the year as well.

Mark Ducker,

Have heard about Goodrem to, but not on any authority, do you know this as being fact or just based on what you have heard.
I just don't wanna get my hopes up that we may have Delta Goodrem and Teresa Palmer in the clubrooms on the same night

Not earth shattering or anything new but Callinan has definately signed with Centrals so why wouldn't the Dogs announce it. He is a very good pick up?

As they haven't named any of their recruits as yet - they'd probably like to officially announce them all at once (for example, like Glenelg and Westies have done).

Lachlan McGhie, my understanding, he is a monster of a boy, weigh in a approx 110kg's

Callinan, this is good news, excellent player, won VFL B&F in 2005, will have as much impact as O'sullivan did in 2006

Goodrem, won the East Coast Eagles B&F in 2006, the Eagles were undefeated all year only to lose the GF, he is an exciting on ball player, but SANFL is a big step from SFL, but I am confident he has the goods to be an even better player at SANFL level but it may take him 12 months

Try again Dr......

Poachers stalking Callinan
BRETT STUBBS

December 14, 2006 12:00am

THE Tassie Devils are in a serious battle to hold onto J.J. Liston medallist Ian Callinan.

Callinan, 23, is being head-hunted by cashed-up South Australian clubs after he again missed out on a chance with an AFL club when the Kangaroos passed him over in Tuesday's rookie draft. Callinan is out of contract with the Devils and is now weighing up his options.

"There are job opportunities and the money in South Australia is pretty good," he said yesterday.

"It's something different, I suppose. I've been playing in Tassie all my life, so doing something different would be good.

"But I'm not 100 per cent sure. After the disappointment of yesterday (the rookie draft), I don't really know what to think."

But if he does decide to leave, it will not be because of the Devils' partial-alignment with the Kangaroos.

"If I chose to go away, it has nothing to do with Tasmania," he said.

"It would be more because of job opportunity and maybe something different.

"I love all the boys and that will be the hardest thing. That will come into my decision."

The goal-kicking on-baller won the VFL and Devils best and fairest award in 2005 and said he has spoken with just about every club in the SANFL.

"It is a bit different to VFL, it is more mature players," said Callinan, who was elevated to Devils vice-captain this year.

"The VFL is more about guys who have been drafted and developing their game. In South Australia, because there is more money, that is where the AFL players who get delisted seem to go.

"But my decision won't be based purely on money."

The Devils have already seen a long line of departures. Ben Atkin and Matthew Geappen have both announced their VFL retirements, Ben Setchell is having a year off from the Devils, key defender Nathan Grima has already signed with SANFL club Central District, and Jack Riewoldt (Richmond), Mitch Thorp (Hawthorn), Tom Hislop (Essendon) and Colin Garland (Melbourne) have all been drafted.

Add to this, former Kangaroo-listed Devils Jade Rawlings (retirement), Chad Jones (delisted), Troy Makepeace (delisted) and Joel Perry (delisted) are no longer at Arden Street, meaning it will be a vastly different Devils lineup next season under new coach Daryn Cresswell.

AFL Tasmania general manager Scott Wade said neither the Devils nor any other VFL club could compete with South Australia dollar for dollar.

Wade also said he was confident the Devils-Kangaroos partial-alignment would be signed and formally announced next week.

Refer BOLD above....for someone who isnt interest in money he mentioned it quite a bit!!!!

So it took Grima AND the wind to beat LeCras?

of course money is a huge consideration

for any recruit moving interstate the $$$ have to be right

anyone who thinks otherwise is a bit :?

yes interstate recruits will use the SANFL as a potential life line to the AFL or to play in best comp outside the AFL

but, lets not think for one minute that the $$$$ don't play a significant factor in the decision making process

Don't get too excited about Trent Goodrem. Is a top 30 player at absolute best, and will struggle to play more than a dozen A-grade games this year. Suspect on disposal for one. Won't take the competition apart by any stretch.
Callinan is not a done deal either - there is another club (not North) still very much in the mix for him. CD is certainly in the hunt, but they wouldn't want to be putting his name on a locker just yet.

Apparently Chad Jones has been referred to Doggie Land by a couple of ex-Dogs, plus he has a good friend in S.A. who follows Central. Just another rumour?

Callinan talking about the money was very interesting - but that was the tone of the whole article. How many times was "cashed up South australian clubs" mentioned? He would have been asked five times, in varying different ways about the money, then add the insight from the journo and the other source, and all of a sudden Callinan's exceptionally keen on the money (and who wouldn't be?). Isn't it weird, after all those years of us whingeing about those Vics in the VFL and now AFL having all that money to take our players away, and now we, the second best competition in the land, as probably just as loathed outside this state. All power to the SANFL I say!

I'd be more excited about the fact that his sister might turn up to a game!
