A Port reflection.
My father, who grew up a good (Bob Shearman comes to mind) drop kick from Thebarton oval, occasionally joked (we think) that his life would have been happier if he had grown up as a Port supporter.
When I, as a Woodville boy, read the sometime heated contributions in this stub ...

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Celebrity presidents just don't get it - 'look at me'! and slagging the SANFL is a bad look to say the least. Nowhere Man.

Re: Rd 17 North v Eagles @ Prospect Oval
Another strong Q1 from WWT, but for over-use of the ball in forward 50 could have been 5-6 goals up. Then North started to play, sparked, possibly, by the big melee close to the stand in Q2. All clubs know that weakness in ruck and lack of midfield speed means WWT will tire into second half. Last ...

Re: Preliminary Final - Port v South @ Adelaide Oval (Sun 14
The rise of South (and Sturt) is the highlight of 2014. Great work from both clubs. Great work also from RPH commentators in their post-game conclusions yesterday. The kind of straight-talking that only an independent media can provide - long live community radio.

Re: Preliminary Final - Port v South @ Adelaide Oval (Sun 14
Each of them (was Daryl S, Dion - the ex umpire, John N - I may have their names wrong) commented separately that the consequences of introducing AFL are profound, that the short to long term impacts are and will be damaging to the SANFL and that the local clubs are extremely disadvantaged by the ...

Re: Ground sizes
End the interchange, allow 4 subs. Coaches will dislike it, but the game would cope with this change.

Re: 2015 Grand Final - Eagles v West - Sun 27/9/15
Westies way too good, the margin flattered us. Great result for the loyal Westies people. The Eagles will need to re-think and renovate their house.

Re: Rd 5 Eagles v North
The game on Sunday was the best we had seen this year. A great advertisement for SANFL football, especially the second half, very attacking and some very good skills from both sides. North's tackling was excellent and their recruits, some of whom we know very well, were very damaging. The chorus of ...

Re: Live Scores - Finals Week 1
I was at the second game on Sunday and I felt a bit sorry for the umpires: they are the scapegoat for the AFL's mindless tinkering with our game. The 'new' holding the ball interpretation has overturned more than a century's principle that the player going for the ball is both protected and rewarded ...

Re: 2020 SANFL Grand Final North v Eagles
SANFL GFs are fabulous - my wife said that it was like being at a carnival. We sat next to the North crowd in the corner pocket near the scoreboard. Passionate with a capital P, and we saw the smoking lady get evicted - she takes no prisoners! The spirit in the outer was fantastic.

Re: EAGLES 2020 PREMIERS
Footy fans come in all shapes and sizes, mentally - from the tragics, the quiet sufferers, the excitable and those who are occasionally OTT if not deranged - sometimes we are all of these at once.

Re: R4 Eagles v North Sunday 2.10PM
North had a terrific second quarter, very dangerous when on song, and perhaps they didn't capitalise on that momentum. Most of the third quarter seemed to be played by 30plus players in the right forward pocket of WWT. As others have commented, excellent to have the North players back at the club ...

Re: 2021 SANFL Grand Final WWT Eagles v Glenelg Sunday 3pm
There has been a strong footy culture at WWT for many many years evidenced by success at junior levels, the high rate of draft picks from the club and strong finals participation. Mr Spellcheck provided a stat recently of a 64% W:L since 1991. Coach Sheedy recognised what we needed to improve, leg ...

Re: Round 5 Eagles vs Centrals X-Convenience oval Saturday
Was expecting a battle and we had that in the first quarter until McCormack came off (hope he's ok - looks the goods). After that we were getting first hands on the ball. Eagles also know their game well, Centrals less so - a work in progress.

Re: R13 Glenelg v Adelaide
While most are disregarding Adelaide for the premiership I am not so certain. Very impressed with them so far.
They have a coach who probably wants to win the flag and has been there before. He has a very good squad, if it stays intact, and there are no AFL finals to worry about.

Re: R1 Norwood v Eagles Friday 7.40
Just a note to compliment whomever on the turf at Norwood - brilliant, like the lights.
Also brilliant in the lights is the Eagles uniform with the white shorts!
Great to see new facilities at SANFL grounds. A Sturt workmate of mine had a tour of the new JO stand - outstanding apparently. Proud of ...

Re: Round 4 North Adelaide v Eagles
North are good, all over us but we kept at it - got within 2 goals in the last quarter and then missed two shots, our goalkicking not flash this year to date. No questions abut our effort but we lack the marking talls. Young (19 years old) Brinker-Ritchie in the ruck was overwhelmed by man-mountain ...

Re: RD8 POWER 2's vs EAGLES ALBERTON OVAL SUN 4/6 2:10PM
Cracker of a finish. Port's last quarter of 6 goals after 2 goals in the first three quarters nearly finished it for us. Narkle was in everything, great SANFL debut. While I have never been keen on an AFL Port in Sanfl, there was a good crowd and a lot of atmosphere. Eagles defence was brilliant and ...

Re: Rd 12 EAGLES VS POWER MAUGHAN THIEM KIA OVAL SAT 8/7 12:
The state of the oval is not a good look for a SANFL club and it works against the young squad that we have. Not privy to 'inside issues', but WWT / City of Charles Sturt/SA Govt/Mali/Albo need a plan to address this matter as a priority.

Re: Round 18 Eagles v West
Great game at Oval Avenue. Both sides went for it as they had nothing to lose with Westies showing tremendous spirit and skill despite a run of narrow losses. Kobe Ryan was everywhere and the Westies talls were too tall for us. Jesse Lonergan was cheered off by both teams at the end and a good vibe ...
