Re: Steve Smith Australian Test Captain

Smith has captained T20 and one day sides before which arguably could require more tactical nous and be more mentally draining.

Hopefully it doesn't affect his batting which imho and as others have said is the biggest risk

Who knows maybe the confidence gained from knowing he is a very to be selected and that he will get an extended run in the side will improve his batting (it could do the opposite)

Unfortunatlythere is no exact science with these things

Re: Things that make you laugh

My conversation with my 6 year old daughter today

Daughter- 'Dad do you still have the receipts for the new 'frozen' alarm you bought me'

Me- 'yeah but why?

Daughter- 'I think my alarm clock is broken and we need to get a new one'

Me- 'why do you think it's broken'

Daughter- 'it keeps waking me up early in the morning'

Re: Aus v Ind Test Series

In fairness to Watson a batting average of 36 and bowling average of 32 probably means his had a reasonable test career

IMHO though he should be batting at 6 or 7 though depending on who the keeper is.

I think his bowling his very underrated

If he can't bowl though he doesn't warrant his spot in the side

He should be fighting for one spot with Mitch Marsh

For me in test cricket

Watson better bowler than Marsh
Marsh better batsmen than Watto

Kohli gives me the shits,

He puts himself out there as this new breed of brash, young, arrogant, agressive Indian cricketers out there

He shits himself against short bowling and is very lucky Mitchy J hasn't found his mojo and let him off kindly in Adelaide, front runner of the highest order

Outside of Adelaide this joker has batted in Aus 7 times

181 runs
25.85 average
50's- 1

Bat ?

The Shaun
He is 16 not out
He has got a start
When he gets going he is a very good batsman
Hopes he makes 100+
We need it, he needs it, he owes it

Looks in mint touch at the moment (will probably get out now)

I think most people see the technique and talent the selectors see in him but it's between the ears and his fitness that will decide if he makes it as a test batsmen

The selectors have a good record of making it work when they give blokes 2-3-4 chances

I wanna back him

Re: BBL 4

Pietersen has been pretty funny.

I met Pieterson at HQ after an Australia Day game one year

Was with Bell and Prior and they were behind me in a packed line up at the bar

I was at the bar and him the guys were 1 deep but the bar staff kept serving further down the bar

He tapped me on the shoulder and said 'hey mate if u let me in front of you I'll get served straight away and I'll buy you and your mate your beer'

Sure enough I let him in front he got served and bought us the beer like he said

Shook his hand and then said- your not a bad bat but come see me when you've hit a div 1 para districts ton'

He had a chuckle and then stood around for the next ten minutes having a joke with us about what number he would bat in our side, we ended up agreeing he would slot in at number 5

Was great value and a giant of a man

Re: Aus v Ind Test Series

My point is a decade ago we had shield players who people thought "how the hell is he not playing for australia?" Sadly we don't have that anymore

Agree wouldn't think there is too many current shield players who haven't played a test for Aus who could consider themselves unlucky.

Re: Aus v Ind Test Series

Anyway today for me was a brilliant day of test cricket

Pitch had abit of bounce in it early and a tad of uneven bounce.

India bowled good lines and batsmen really had to get in before getting to extravegent

Looks like the type of pitch where you are never completely in

Really loved the Haddin/short ball battle as well as watching Watson and Marsh batting for their careers

Game is evenly poised heading into day 2, personally I think 320-340 is par score

Re: Aus v Ind Test Series

an extra 2 hours in the field today would have made SFA difference for Sydney ... inexperienced decision by Smith, hope he gets away with it though.
Disagree. We only need a draw to win the series. What happens if we bowl ourselves into the ground today going for the win and India get the runs? Risk losing the toss in Sydney with a fatigued bowling group with the series still alive....the media would tear shreds off the captain and bowlers for losing the series from 2 zip up.

Yep

From Smiths point of view there was a lot to lose with an earlier declaration and the reward very little in the big picture

If the series was up for grabs yes he batted for too long but in this situation i think they times it perfect

If we had held our catches this would be over already

Re: BBL 4

Fox sports just said the crowd was nearly 50k last night. Pretty hard to fault the format when attendances are breaking records.

I am worried though as we approach the half way mark with SA on top. I have seen this in all 3 forms many times over the last 20 years for it to only end in tears all but two times. At least this time I don't expect us to win.

Lucky this side isn't South Australia or the redbacks and has more interstate born players than South Aussies

Re: Things that you rate!

The community spirit shown by unlikely heroes when complete strangers are in need.
What I've witnessed over the past 24 hours makes me proud to be a South Aussie.
Firstly, the superhero firefighters, then it's those putting up random families and there pets and then those buying and donating supplies.
Simply awesome.

Great post, I'm well known for being critical of Adelaide but without doubt there is a beautiful community spirit throughout the state (there is always a minority's which I had the unfortunate oppurtunity to meet half a dozen at work today)

Even today at work we had 6 of our 14 staff who were rostered on unable to make it to work due to the fires.

Within 15 minutes and a couple of phone calls I had all shifts covered so the people affected didn't have to stress or feel like they had let our work down (knowing we were going to be smashed 42degree day pubic swimming pool)

Already the girls at work are collecting money and putting together hampers with all the food, clothes, necessities they will need

All bias aside I reckon Sanga has him covered due to the fact he batted higher up the order and generally has come in at worse situations in test cricket than Gilly

Re: World Cup 2015

The 15 I think the selectors will pick is

Finch
Warner
Watson
Smith
Bailey
Marsh
Haddin
Maxwell
Faulkner
Johnson
Pattinson

Starc, Cummins, Wade, S.Marsh

Starc in for Pattinson, Wade in for Haddin. Blood Abbott and let Patto play some Shield. Piss off Haddin and have a look at Ludemann.

regards,

REB m

Agree with what your saying but picked it based on what I think the selectors will do

Also being a home tournament with the pressure to win I doubt there will be a lot if any experimenting/unproven players selected

Re: 2014-2015 20/20 Whinge Thread

Hehe.

20/20 is the perfect length of time for young kids and TV. No reason to shorten it further.

There in lies the problem, kids lack attention spans now as it is, try keeping them focused on something longer than a couple of ........oh, look, there's a bloke who looks like that guy I saw in that Vine video last Wednesday. I think it was Wednesday. It was when I went to Maccas with Deano. I think it was Deano.

Anyway, attention spans, they'll struggle to comprehend the 450 overs over 5 days concept and what we, I trust you agree, know as the more pure form of cricket, Test cricket, will be a sideline to the *ahem* "Big Show".

well put boon.

i loved ODI and test cricket growing up... Couldn't wait for it to come on tv...

Yep favourite day of the year was also the first day of the first test match

As a kid was always allowed to have that day off of school
