Trader wrote:So by my count we've done the following:
In: 6,F3rd(45ish),F4th(65ish) = 2,188pts
Out: 23, 30, 48,49, Polec, Pittard = 2,033pts + 2 players.

So net we've had in: 155pts (equivalent of Pick 60), for Out: Polec and Pittard, plus we are still paying 200k of Pittard for the next two years.

When you add in the fact that this years draft is 'stronger' than next, and we've pushed current picks out for future ins, in reality it is even worse than the above.

We have had an absolutely shocking start to this year's trade period.

Ok, updating for the latest one (which I count as a win):

Booney wrote:Port :
Out - pick 6 ( Brisbane ) Wingard ( Hawthorn )
In - pick 5 and Mayes ( Brisbane ) pick 15 and Burton ( Hawthorn )

also includes swap of 3rd and 4th round picks next year

In: Pick 5, 15, Mayes, Burton, F3rd (Freo - 45ish) F4th(Roos - 65ish), F4th(Dogs - 65ish)
Out: 23, 30, 48, 49, Polec, Pittard, Wingard, F3rd (Port - 50ish)

Combining the picks to points we get a net of:
In: 1211 points, (Pick 13 is worth 1212), Burton and Mayes.
Out: Polec, Wingard, Pittard.

Mayes and Pittard sort of cancel each other out.
Would I have traded Polec and Wingard for 13 and Burton? Probably not, but given both wanted out, it's probably not the worst outcome overall.

EDIT: Updated for the swap of 2019 picks with hawks as well, then changed to whose third rounders they actually were.

Well you can't trade everyone in for a late 4th round selection.

Do Port now go the GC with 5,10 & 15 + Hombsch for 2 & 3? The picks alone would have Port 317 points better off (Pick 47 equivalent). Throw Hombsch in & would be a fair deal?

Pick 15 and just a good honest half back flanker who has probably reached his ceiling. Not a lot really. Hawks paid unders IMO

For all the bagging of Wingard, at a good side with a decent coach he is AA material. Hawks get another steal

So what has changed since then?
Why did Port go from a side that was ok to watch as a neutral and played some attractive football to the side that now is horrible to watch and is more interested in crabbing it around the boundary.

The big risk for Hawks is Chad clearly doesn't like to be challenged by a coach...and Clarko will certainly challenge him along with the Hawks supporters should he continue his downhill skiing approach.

I think Hawks will get a big lift in 2019 (maybe even AA again) but after that, watch him spiral down.

Not too shabby.

Rockliff, Motlop, Watts....

Who?

Compare :

Motlop or Polec - Who, in your view, has got the greater / better body of work across their careers?

Do the same with Rockliff and Dyson.

Pittard and Watts.

I'm just saying getting some recruits in isn't all it may be cracked up to be....
