I've even excluded Matt Primus as a native Victorian, although he could arguably technically qualify as he played a full season for Norwood before playing his first AFL game. (Phil Carman was also a native Victorian, but played 4 or so seasons for us, which has to be enough in anyone's language, and unlike Primus was never on a senior VFL/AFL team list before playing for Norwood.)
FF: Stephen Rowe, Phil Carman, Steven Pitt
HF: Roger James, Matthew Robran, Graham Molloy
C: Tony Francis, Scott Burns, Nic Fosdike
HB: Jared Crouch, Craig Kelly, Martin Pike
B: Michael Taylor, Tom Warhurst, Nathan Bassett
R: David Pittman, Keith Thomas, Jack Oatey*
Int: Brett James, Rodney Maynard, Jonathon Robran
Emg include: Glenn Molloy, Tom Harley, Adam Heuskes, Neil Hein, Grant Tanner, Jonathon Ross, Stephen Patterson, Scott Bassett, James Gallagher, Donald Dickie, Stephen Daniels, Andrew Pascoe, Justin Staritski, David Gallagher, Cristian O'Brian, Brenton Klaebe, Sam Smart (!), Scott Robinson, Nathan Irvin (1 AFL game!), James Weeding**, Mark Jones**, James Pyke** plus a clutch of young'uns still making their mark in AFL. There might be some geniuses that I've missed, who others recall.
* Oatey played just a token number of games for Sth Melb because he was stationed in Melbourne on national service in WW2. Still technically qualifies!
** Definitely drafted by VFL clubs, but I have no idea whether they ever played a senior game (or even went over to Melbourne).
A very good team generally, with an absolute dream backline. Even an AA player in Heuskes, the current Geelong captain in Harley, and one of my all-time faves in Rod Maynard, couldn't force their way into it. Not 100% happy with the forward structure; Andrew Pascoe and Jonathon Ross could both conceivably have claims on FF, but the players selected all demanded a spot in the 18 IMO, even though there isn't a specialist FF among them. Anyhoo, with that backline, the forwards would only need to kick 10 goals and we'd win every game!
A pretty decent side there and there's no problem with Fabulous Phil being an inclusion, especially at FF. He kicked something like 14 on debut with Collingwood!
The backs are good, but the centreline is looking a little average.
I think Graham Molloy would be better placed in the centre or a wing, but I'm not sure.
Another player not listed is David Palm. Went to Richmond in the 70s and might've been a defender I think.
