JANUARY 26
Woodville refuted suggestions that Ralph Sewer wanted to quit
New CD coach Daryl Hicks has ho objection to Graham Reed practicising at Unley under Jack Oatey
Hicks quotes "" He should be all the better for the experience when he returns to Elizabeth at the start of the season.""
Rick Davies has just recovered form a collapsed lung and Pneumonia admitted Woodville had made him an offer, Sturt were not amused
RALPH SEWER
Remember Ralph taking us for a Primary School coaching session in 1970 !
Zip Zap was a sensational player, not only brilliant but could dish it out, a brilliant left footer
Very good attacking cricketer as well
On the social scene was a real character
He did actually leave Woodville and play for Glenelg
GRAHAM REED
Full forward for CD
Hicks thought it was a good idea for Graham to train under Hicks mentor Jack Oatey pre -season
That backfired, Reed ended up playing for ST in defence this season
Cant believe this is how this transpired
RICK DAVIES
The Jumbo Prince
Champion ruckman
Champion full forward
ST captivated me in the 60s/70s I was impressed with thier style of footy and great players
Jumbo, Flash, Baggy, Kenny Whelan, were amongst some my very favourites at the club
Others that I liked were Winter, Zubrinich, Bob Oatey, Pettingill, Barton, Nunan ...
DAVIES ran 2nd in the 1974 Mag Medal and won numerous B/F awards at the club
Prob the best 6'3'' sized ruckman to play in the SANFL
I had thought that Jumbo revolutionised Checkside tactics, but I have been corrected on this matter
