Two Wells made the trip up the highway for its final match of the season and took on Hummocks-Watchman Eagles at Lochiel yesterday afternoon. Lochiel Oval held good memories for the Roosters, this was the venue where they upset the Eagles in last year 1st Semi Final. This was the last time Two Wells defeated Hummocks with the Eagles winning the Round 5 clash at Port Wakefield by 14 points while they also won at Two Wells in Round 12 by 21 points. Despite the Roosters being unable to reach this years finals both sides had alot to play for, the Roosters were looking to finish a disappointing season on a winning note, while a win for the Eagles would see them finish the season in second spot and secure the double chance. Two Wells continued its theme of blooding kids, with four senior colts in its line up. Dylan Wise and Luke Godfrey who made their A-grade debuts last week retained their spots, Jordan Shepard who made his A-grade debut in the Round 10 against Mallala was recalled while Tim Hines, the younger brother of rookie defender Daniel Hines was playing his first match in red and whites 1st side. Daniel Hines sent a scare through the Roosters camp during pre-match warm up during the final quater of the Reserves by rolling his ankle and having to hobble back to the changes rooms and having it strapped. The Roosters matched it with the Eagles for the first quarter and a half and despite trailing by 5 points at the first change and hit the front early in the second quarter. After this it would be all one way traffic, with the Rooster next goal not coming to midway through the last quarter when Chris Christofis goaled directly in front. The Eagles were dominant all over the ground with Joe Hunt unstopable up forward, Hunt had a day out kicking 10 goals. Man mountain Shaun Light was brilliant as was former Willaston premiership player Lee Belperio. Full Forward Paul Christofis was moved to centre half back will captain Scott Humpries was switched from defence to the midfield but the Eagles had all the answers kicking 18 of the last 20 goals to run out winners by 99 points. In a positive sign for the future Dylan Wise took a few strong marks, along with a goal in the last quarter and despite his light frame didn't look out of place in the seniors. Ned Seccafien and Tallan Leighton battled hard for the visitors but for many Roosters the final siren came as a relief that the season was over. Hummocks-Watchman Eagles are hitting top gear at the right time of the year and would have to start favourites in the Second Semi next Saturday despite the match being played at Mallala. It will be the first time Hummocks and Mallala have met in September since the 08 decider, the Magpies will probably be having nightmares during the week about the Premeirship that got away. The Magpies have been the best side of the competition for the last few years but have limped to Minor Premership with the Eagles, Peckers and Rams all in much better form. Its too early to write off the Magpies, but the Eagles will be confindent and fancy their chances of going all the way and taking thier dynasty to 6 flags in 10 years. Two Wells attention now turns to the Reserves, Senior and Junior Colts who all secured the double chance, with the Reserves and Junior Colts looking to go back to back while Cheeky's Senior Colts will be trying to go one better on last year.
