While i'm going i wonder if they have removed the point that Flagstaff kicked after the free kick plus 50m penalty clause..?? Or the high tackle on they missed directly in front of goal, or the holding the ball that happened in the 3rd quarter or even the throw which happened in the last quarter. Do you get my point? Very dangerous practice over ruling the umpires after that game has been finalised. How do the field umpires escape this anyway? If the controlling umpire has not performed his duty correctly in sending off a player how can Morphett Vale be penalised?

I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this?

Hopefully this is the end of this. Umpires have made a big blue and hopefully SFL will at the very least make them aware of the correct procedure for future incidents. Hardly worth M/Vale following up tho - got much bigger things on the horizon starting with a HUGE game at Brighton this week.

If Morphett Vale dont follow up on this the umpires are getting away with making huge mistakes and it could happen again. It mite not mean anthing in the overall scheme of things but youve got to make sure it doesnt happen again.

How can the umpires not enforce a rule because they are scared of crowd reaction. never heard of a bigger joke in my life.

Sounds like a big blunder by the umps in this game.. but dont go to hard on them boys.. its probably the first time it has happened. I would imagine if there was plenty of pressure due to some heated confrontations this could have put more pressure on them.

i think the umpires at fault should be punished and suspended IMO. NO it wont change a thing, but the SFL needs to have accountability and understand that the umpires are representing the league in a way that is not acceptable!

Think we might be landing too much of this onto the umpires. I'm sure the official rule DOES NOT include automatic loss of the entire score to that point (pretty sure that point came up in a case a couple of years ago) ----- the rule as i understand it to be is that penalty is applied according to severity and circumstances (whether full or part deduction of score, or the application of some other penalty).
I agree the ump concerned may have erred in not implicating yellow card correctly, and maybe that was why the umps then ruled the way they did ----- which makes that ruling not to deduct any score the correct one in my book.
Maybe the powers that be should actually accept the umps ruling.
And by the way ---- this ruling would NOT have been affected by being scared of the crowd. That suggestion is totally ridiculous.

well said BTP, no chance you could get yourself on the board at the SFL. Or is against there rules to have anyone with any common sense on their panel.

Although the umpires made the mistake with the yellow card, they decided at the time that the punsihment of a free kick and 50m penalty from the centre was fair and the part of there ruling. (No actual game was played with the incorrect number of players.)

The main joke in this whole situation is the fact that things have been changed after the result was finalised by the league delegates. another great job by the league

Sitting from the sidelines and watching with both eyes open, it was clear as day that the Morphies player was given a yellow card. This was then followed up by a yellow to a Flaggies player. Just because the umpire didnt escort either player to the sidelines doesnt mean the cards didnt happen. Although, clearing all of Morphies score at the time of the incident is quite severe considering there wasnt a second of play where Morphies had the extra player.

And congratulations to Scott Pollard for kicking his 100th.

That is because the AFL made a rule change to avoid this situation (ie the umpires used the AFL version, not the rules of Australian Football version) - this rule has not been implemented as yet by the SFL

there was no play played with an extra man but can i ask what was about to happen when the umpires called for the count. i do get what you mean by the confusion of all the players running to the bench from the couple of 50m penalties and then 2 players being sent off. well done polly with the hundred. the kids had the flags ready to run on but were a bit unsure and thought twice about it

Can someone from Morphy Parks confirm that no 12 on the weekend was Alex Grima from the Bays/Hawthorn last year? i think the paper had him down as Grimer if it was him or not could play the game and had a great boot on him. Great game of footy Morphys were very good and deserved to be even closer im surprised they aren't higher they seemed a very slick side or was this a rather rare occasion.
