Not quite sure if it was the awakening of a giant, the vanquishing of a pretender, or quite possibly just an entertaining round 19 clash - but wandered down to Cove to watch Brighton visit the raining premiers. At one point in the first quarter Brighton blew out to a 6 goal lead and it looked like it might get ugly! But the Cobras rallied to go in to half time maybe 2 goals behind, and after half time Brighton completely fell to pieces, going down by about 7ish goals. Cobras hitting form at the right time, and 2 big losses in a row for the latte sippers...

Shoes 42/20
Hackham 2/2
Something like that but fell short of a club record by a goal.

Saints are set, Port and Marion both dead.
Its all down to Roos or Shoes for the last spot now.
Roos half-a-win inside the Eight, but have the bye, so if Shoes win they're in.
Who'd have thought with all the mid-season speculation the game to sort it out would be Flagstaff v. Noarlunga.

cove looks like it has finally got up and going. but i wouldnt read to much into the two brighton losses i still rekn they could go alrite come september.

well done to the parks yesterday. some good battles recently in the twistie cup. as was the story yesterday. i think it'd be a shame if they missed out for the shoes as i think the parks have more of a chance in the first elim.

Morphies by a few goals in difficult, windy conditions..Low scoring game and at times not pretty to watch.

Beeching and the Bayleys dominant as always...

just on todays mini's carnival. tough conditions 4 all. posts blowing over hahaha. but hackem put on a good show.

but whoever set the draw up wrecked the day. they tried to get average sides to the finals by putting the best sides in the same pool. which is absolutely ridiculous when reynella and marion had only lost 2 games for the year get pooled together with both brighton sides who hadnt lost too many. anyways marion and reynella both missed finals.

now this might seem insignificant to most, but these kids battle they're ass off to become a good side. win most games and miss out on playing any finals, because of the draw. its like saying well done to geelong and stkilda for being the clear best 2 sides this year but u'll play an elimination final first week. or playing federer vs nadal first round Wimbledon.

very angry at who's fault this is. utter bs

That is what happens when you do not have a competition all year and play participation footy. The SFL asked all clubs to rate their teams from 1 to 10 so as to make the draw equal. This is what happens when you do this. How do you rate teams with having a measuring stick like a ladder for the year? Until the arrogant managment at SFL house is changed we will have a mickey mouse comp. Also playing on half grounds over 2 halves is not an indication of the work and development put into teams by coaches and players, who play on full ovals over 4 quarters for the rest of the year, where kids are taught proper structures and game plans. I did think though that Brighton Black were a very very good team who are very well disciplined for under 12 footballers and derserved their win. Lets work to get some modern thinking football people at the SFL.

Hackham did a fantastic job of hosting the day, a lot of work I hope it paid off for them they derserve all praise and credit.

It is up to the hosting clubs to do the draw, and the rating idea was passed on to the clubs by the SFL, but didn't originate with them. Also the clubs were asked to rate their opposition not themselves so it gave a reasonable idea of the strength of clubs. Lonsdale did something similar. The idea behind it to try the make the end of season carnival as enjoyable as possible for as many as possible. Putting the likes of Lonsdale, Hackham or the Cove Cobras team up against the Brighton, Marion and Reynella sides is going to result in 20 goal beltings even in the shortened games.

Having said that I think having a regular season competition where clubs aren't supposed to tell their teams if they've won or lost or award best players and then going to a carnival where they are playing for a shield and medallions doesn't feel right. Kids know who won or lost and they talk at school so they can tell you how many games the team they're playing next week has won this season a lot of the time. Publishing a ladder isn't giving them much more information than they already know.

A bit harsh TC as we belted M/Parks last time we played and the start of the year went down by 2 points in that history making free kick count 40/15

I went down to Reynella expecting a good game but the wind straight across the ground ruined that, the 3 umpires I must say did a good job and would be favourites to do the GF, Popplewell, Pope and Godfrey.
Morphett Vale will be hard to beat in any conditions I would think - Good mix of Talls and Smalls.
As mentioned before Beeching and Bayleys did as they liked.

Great tough contest yesterday in conditions that did not suit skillful football. I thought the Wineflies showed they were not far behind the Emus, but Morphett had the answer whenever they challenged.
Interesting to see Procter's tally again ---- four out of six. If he can bag four in a low-scoring slog like this he might still be a silly ton chance (especially if the Wineys end up on the good end of a Semifinal blowout). If Reynella get three finals he needs to average four per game.

Well maybe they should have held a raffle or karaoke contest for the shield and medals.

Exactly you either have it one way or the other.

After observing yesterday I think some parents wanted a win more than the kids.

As I said earlier you teach/develop the kids all year then have a mickey mouse competition day which is not reflective of the skills learnt throughout the year. There was more focus on winning by some parents and coaches than on the kids enjoying themselves. What is being created when you have kids crying over losing a carnival and parents blaming umpires? :(

For goodness sakes wake up and let the kids have fun.
