DTH
Let the Under 8, 10 and 12 comps continue the same way the Mini's has always been run. Certain parents should grow up and understand that these are development years with a focus on participation but thats it not a bad thing to have a nominal prize at the end of year as an excuse for bringing everyone together to celebrate our leagues mini's program.

The bad parent is not exclusive to Cove or for that matter to any particular sporting code, they are everywhere. The SFL are kidding themselves if they don't think that parents and kids play competitivley each week, it is about how each coach addresses this issue. You rave on about school based sport, correct me if I am wrong but don' they publish scores and best players in the media? Does this not encourage competition? We all grew up playing competition and I don't think it harmed any of us, in fact it just might help this molly coddled generation when they get away from the apron strings and have to fend for themselves.

Its often easy to pick the parents who were obviously sporting duds themselves and want to live their dreams through their childrens sport.

Any particular parents you are refferring to? I agree some do live thier dreams via the kids.

I might say before you throw darts at Cove you may wish to look in your backyard, Hear a few whispers about some 14/16 looking for new yards next year due to the split factions saturday and sunday.

Any news about BDOS having 19 on the field in the 'B' game Saturday and 2 goals 1 during this, the winning margin. Just wonder if Warman and Co have the B==== to do anything about it.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
There goes the siren end of the first quarter.
DTH open up with a few majors and looked in full controll
Vicso1 rallied back late chipping away at it one by one.
Few cheap shots by both teams let down what was other wise a good quarter.
Lets hope the second Quarter can keep all of us safooty followers glue to our screens

Ha. Good summary Spanner. Altho the long running battles between Vics01 & DTH remind me more of an ongoing WWE saga. Who can forget the one bout when they actually agreed on something and joined forces on that solitary occasion..!!

What makes you think I have recent comments about the best umpires, but since you asked I'll have a crack. I'm not too sure on matching all names with faces for the good umpires. I'm better at that for the incompetent ones.

I would suggest: Jensen (I know he reads this forum so I had to put him first), Godfrey, Symons, Popplewell, Pope, Simister.

Theres a couple of other older ones like McCarthy who do a solid job but maybe past doing big finals.

I do take exception to the ones who love the sound of their whistle and destroy games with over umpiring and giving ridiculous 50's. 2 blokes whose surnames rhyme with Ball spring to mind.

Strange situation for the roos this week. Going to training not knowing if they will play again this season. Perhaps they could train with flaggies this week, buy them a couple of beers, make some friends...!

Now the Finals are nearly upon us how does everyone rate each club/coach in relation to last year -

MV - Continued on without hiccup, job well done - PASS
Edwardstown - Hard to say being first year, finals will be interesting due to soft draw - PASS
Brighton - About the same as last year - PASS
Reynella - Improved and will be a Flag contender - PASS
Cove - Minor round definately taken a step back, finals may prove different - FAIL
Happy Valley - Taken a major step back - FAIL
Christies - Definately improved - PASS
Parks - About the same competitiveness but no finals - FAIL
Noarlunga - Definately improved - PA$$
Porties - Hard year, draw/injuries/cyclones - FAIL
Marion - Definately gone backwards, very poor year - FAIL
Flaggies - should start seeing some junior success into senior soon..?? - FAIL
Lonsdale - Not a good year - FAIL
Aldinga - Taken step backwards - FAIL
Hackham - Not getting flogged by as much - PASS

Yeah its a funny one (not being involved in finals for the 1st time in a while) not allowed on the oval till thurs night so the boys will train then.
If we were playing finals we would have trained somewhere else on Tues night

Rumours that Christies dont want to be the 1st to play at Porties and the sfl gave them 2 options after an inspection of the oval
1. Play at Porties
2. Forfit

An honest assesment form the outside looking in
Morphies - to win the flag this year from what i've seen to many options (tall/small, up front/down back)
Cove - still puzzels me how they got the draw they did after winning the flag
Reynella - depends on how bad Reynella's injuries are if they finish 2nd or 3rd
Townies - to get found out (soft draw) Maybe higher if they get everyone fit
Brighton - Good mid-field no real high quality fwds
Happy valley - not sure didnt see them this year
Christies - Making up the numbers
Noarlunga - Making up the numbers (we will see if they really are developing their kids and exposing as many as possible to the major round or playing older journeymen instead)
