Kieron Pollard has put his domestic Twenty20 future ahead of his West Indies career by turning down a place on the one-day leg of the A-team tour to England in favour of his deal with Somerset for the Friends Provident t20.
Pollard, the hard-hitting allrounder, is due to link up with the county shortly but was offered a place on the West Indies A tour which includes a triangular series with England Lions and India A in June. However, Cricinfo understands he declined that opportunity because he isn't on a WICB retainer contract and doesn't feel an obligation to deny himself a lucrative spell with Somerset where the money on offer is substantially more than what he would earn with the A team.

If a players "dream" is not to play Test cricket for their country (or for England ), then they are really pursuing the wrong dream... Cricket began in the 1800's, and is still being played the same way today. The right way.

This "carnival" style makes me angry...

While the debate over eligibility of players rumbles on, the Netherlands have gone abroad to boost their chances in the coming year and recruited two players with Dutch passports and first-class experience in Australia and New Zealand.

Tom Cooper, a 23-year-old batsman who played for Australia at Under-19 level, and 24-year-old Otago wicketkeeper-batsman Derek de Boorder will both play for the country this coming season. Neither will be deemed to be an overseas player by the ECB and so both can compete in the English 40-over competition.
