Very sad to hear.
Good luck with your injury and what the future holds.

Goodluck and hope you kick a bag full in your last game Polly!
Thought watching all the goals you have kicked over their heads most of the full back's and goal umpire's necks would go way before yours!

Polly is in no danger of further long term damage by playing his last game this week. However if he continued to play it would require continual treatment that could not be sustained. The reason I put this post on here is to give everyone an opportunity to pass on any mesage to Scott as he is an avid reader (and sometimes poster) on this site. I hope I have all the details correct Polly.
And yes it is a different look team to 2009 but some very exciting young talent getting an opportinity, don't write the emus off.

Down the Hill wrote:Come on Emu subscribers, more info please. It must be serious if he is retiring mid-season yet its been suggested he is playing one last game this week vs Cove. Clearly a very important game, so I'm a bit intrigued as to why he won't finish the season or retire immediately based on whatever diagnosis he has just received.

Having said that, other than the goals he's kicked himself (which is plenty), we would all have a bloody sore neck from watching all the goals Polly has had go over his head in the last 7 years.

Big round this week with some excellent match-ups.

And going back to last week. Cove and Brighton matches were outstanding in all grades. Great competitive footy all day with results shared between the clubs. The A grade was a great advertisement for the SFL. High scoring but still plenty of defensive pressure and played in great spirit with no undisciplined acts or melees. Just good hard clean footy.

Must have been the place to be alright ---- two one-point margins amongst it all. I should have made the trip down the hill (no pun intended).
Re Polly-- a real shock to hear the news. Great guy and great footballer. I'm a little like you though DTH, a bit mystified about the "one more game".

From what Ive heard its some neck pain he has been playing the year with and has been getting worse. got it checked and its an arthritis type thing in his neck wth some bulging discs etc. cant do any permanent damage by playing this week but to play the season out or even just the last 5-6 games could still make it considerably worse.

FLYER: I reckon he has played around 180 games or so but not sure on the goals, I would guess over 700 tho ( maybe Bag the Points may have some stats??)

All the best in your last game Polly.

Thanks Spot On.

If you read this Polly, great career mate. With the gloves, long sleeves, boyish looks, neat hair and always clean shaven, you would have looked so much better in a Brighton guernsey. Tan Ezy would have loved to have got their hands on your fair complexion and made a true Bomber out of you.

I'm sure the Bombers and the Winies (god forbid) would have shared a few of those 5 flags with the Emu's if not for Polly's presence in the goal square.

Congratulations to you Polly on a great decorated career with Morphett Vale Football Club. Played against you for many years and definately one of the best forwards in my time in the Southern League and a good bloke to go with it.
Sad to hear you have to finish early and not on your own terms. But your personal health does have to take priority as you are a long time retired.
Good luck on whatever you do in the life after football and sure you will have a major role to play with your beloved Emu's for the rest of the year and into the future.
Good onya bloke and well done again, many great achievements and well deserved.
Tight Lines Polly and good luck this week - kick a bag and go out on a high!!

Surely you can't be serious !!!!
You could take out another ten before they are in doubt for September. Maybe double-chance could be in jeopardy, but I'm betting what's left will still be a Flag contender,
Miss the Finals ?? ---- just ask Flagstaff or Port how far away from that the Emus are.

Congratulations on a fantastic career Polly, you truely are a great sportman & bloke on and off the field. I know this would be absolutely tearing you up inside - however, just look down at your ankle & remember all those flags & all those good times you have had, especially at the CJPC (have a real good think about it and you will work it out)...

You're a bloody legend and i'm sure it won't be too long before you are either a fantastic coach or a member of the MOB.

Enjoy Saturday! :D :D :D

bit of a tongue and cheek comment that was meant to be,yes m/vale will play finals I just think these weeks leading into finals will be very challenging for the emus,I for one hope they are up to it.

Congratulations too Scott also,I've seen alot of good players at m/vale over the years and he would be in my top 5.

Just noticed by the details underneath your name you are a Morphett Vale man, Vulcan. Makes a big difference to the circumstances surrounding your post ---- I jumped in because I thought it was an "Emu Knocker" going right over the top, but turns out it was one of their own just keeping the lid on.
Still reckon they are right in it with Bombers and Wineflies as a three-horse-race. My tip is Reynella but any of the trio could grab it from here.
On Polly, well done on a tremendous career mate. I've had the pleasure of watching both father and son in action ---- both outright champions.

Firstly, Congrats to Polly on his career. I dont know if I have enjoyed watching him or not over the last few seasons, that said with full respect.

If he is playing a retirement match this week because his 'injury' is not threatening longterm (aka Nick Stevens) I hope he kicks a bag (because he isnt playing us). However, if Morphett Vale do infact make the Grand Final, I would not be surprised if the gloved one comes out of retirement for one last horrah. He will be qualified, he will be fresh, and as a MV coach it would be extremely tempting to put a guy with his quality in for the big match.

I watched some of Mvales training last week and id say they are in strife, numbers looked low and I think the 18's were training with them. Poor kicks, poor work rate. They wont play in the GF this year based on what I saw! I know ive only seen them for one week but they didnt look to be a premiership threat thats for sure. In fact, noarlunga look better on the track. Not that the track is a big reflection on game day.

I doubt 'Goldy' is on 1200 a game too. But if he was (I have no idea what he is on) I havent read anywhere that anyone has said he isnt worth it (at least I dont think so). If he kicks over 100 goals (HH3 would suggest he wont given the draw) is he worth it? When i was up forward he passed on some excellent forward line information that ill again use one day.

Good luck to all that are lucky enough to play.

Congrats Polly on a stellar career. Regardless of whatever I may have said about your gloves in the past, I reckon you're an absolute gun and one of the best full-forwards I've ever seen. All the best for your last game and for the future. :D

Don't know how much he is on, but he did ask Townies to match the offer the $hoe$ made and he was knocked back,
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.
