5AA "Where Are They Now??"

Postby JK » Wed Jan 17, 2007 10:20 am

Only caught a minute or two of dumb and dumber last night, but thought I heard them say James West was the "Where Are They Now?" guest and that he had been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer ... Can anyone confirm this for me?

He wasn't their 'where are they now guest' but they did have him on. He does have prostate cancer and is having a procedure in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully it will all go smoothly.

Yes, a rough procedure on the prostate would certainly leave its mark.

But I agree with the sentiment, hopefully all goes well.

Tonight's guest on "Where are they Now" was Glenelg full-forward from the 1960's, Kevin Rowe.

People often criticise KG and Cornesy on here, but those interviews often give great insights into the history of the SANFL, and they should be commended for running those segments.

I can't argue with that Ecky, it is one of the best segments on any sporting programme IMHO.

They should call the segment "Where are Cornsey's ex-teammates now"....

Despite being exactly the same questions every week regardless of the participant (where did you get your start? How was it playing under Knuckles/Cornsey/Jack etc etc)

Are KG & Cornesy still on air? I thought they would have been pensioned off years ago.

I stream SEN online, they actually talk about sport on that station. Much better.

So you get Victorian bullshit instead of SA bullshit. A rose by any other name still stinks.

Better scribes than the collection of Galahs at SEN wouldn't have a clue what state the Kangaroos are supposed to be from these days LOL.

He switched to full back later in his career under Neil Kerley.

I don't know if you've ever heard SEN, REB old boy, but it is an actual sports show. Not a Crows show like 5AA. If there's a sporting event taking place at the time, then that is what gets their attention. With KG & Cornes (who remind me a lot of Waldorf and Stadler from the Muppets), you could have the Australian Open, the Adelaide Test Match, and the British Open Golf all going on at the same time, and yet their show would still be 70% Crows and a little bit of Power. And if they discuss AFL, they talk about ALL 16 clubs, not just Melbourne teams.

Yes, SEN has a Victorian flavour, but their presenters have a light hearted attitude to sport. They are there to entertain, not to annoy the crap out their listeners. And they present sport on a global scale, not just focus on what is happening in their own back yard. Their callers are witty, and much more interesting than the tunnel-visioned drones who ring into 5AA. If someone rings with a contrary point of view, they are allowed to articulate their opinions without being interupted by a barage of arrogance and abuse from Cornes, or KG screaming like a stuck pig. And they will end the call with, "We don't necessarily agree, but thanks for your call".

If you prefer arrogance, propoganda, narrow mindedness and just want to hear about the Crows ad nauseum, then 5AA is for you. If you prefer a more rounded point of view and like sport in general, then SEN is the way to go. The choice is yours.
