So i don't think the event is a secret, it was very openly discussed in the media at the time.

And as a mug punter @ the time, for mine the evidence looked very compelling.

Come on give North a break! If it is not the Slaary cap this year it is dredging up the past. Anyone would think we are cheats!

Also heard today via a retired North "official" that North have had their books checked by the SANFL Salary Cap review people and no problems what so ever - funny about that?. Let's hope they officially announce that so everyone can get off our case.

One of your "fans" raised the subject.

And i don't remember anyone suggesting that North breached LAST season's Salary Cap Drebin...

Pretty hard to investigate THIS years until the season is run and won, me thinks.....................

Did the North books include all the "sponsorship" money from Clipsal? Nasty rumours flying around town about maybe some advances to play transfer fees?? I heard that from an Aunty, who served a "retired" Postie, whose Mum has been seen walking past Clipsal on a Thursday last June.....

One could ask were the North books shown to the salary cap review officials as real as the "real" South Adelaide player contracts?? :? :?

I guess we'll never know hey?.......
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I'm only going on what I was told but to clarify what you are saying Borat, the league is obliged to investigate complaints when they receive them and 4 clubs made complaints this year and some time back about 3 other clubs re their supposed recruiting in relation to "perceived" salary cap overspends. See the following:

Salary scrutiny
By DOUG ROBERTSON
21dec05

THE SANFL is taking a closer than usual look at the clubs' salary cap after a rash of accusations of widespread deception within the league.

Several unnamed SANFL clubs have accused clubs of bending the $305,000 annual salary cap to lure top quality interstate recruits to Adelaide.
One disgruntled player is said to have delivered two contracts - one official the other a hidden contact - he had signed last year which show his different match fees.

The league could not confirm that yesterday.

Suspicion between the clubs has been rife for several years but the league says that currently there is no proof of salary cap breaches.

"We have embarked on the salary cap reviews which won't be finished until the New Year," SANFL football operations manager Glen Rosser said.

"At a league directors meeting a couple of weeks ago there were a number of accusations made by a number of clubs pertaining to other clubs. We are investigating those accusations."

So that has been looked at (at least in North's case as far as I am aware) as well as the original issue involving South. How long do you think it takes for a team of 3 persons to look at 42 contracts when they were handed straight up on request? You can only add the same figures up so many times to produce the same total? Plus if any club was actually cheating do you think that they would keep those records for the league to find? It would take another Tuckey example to catch a club out if they were not too smart.

P.S. You wouldn't want to guess which 4 clubs complained would you?

Looking at this from the ladders point of view, the ladder after Round 23 was:

Code: Select all
Eag   20   15    5   0         2114         1778   54.32 30
N.A   21   14    6   1         2362         1777   57.07 29
S.A   20   14    6   0         2245         1770   55.92 28
P.A   20   12    8   0         1896         1752   51.97 24
W.A   20   10   10   0         1876         1921   49.41 20
Gl    20    9   11   0         2036         2188   48.20 18
Nor   21    7   13   1         1931         2044   48.58 15
C.D   20    6   14   0         1769         2095   45.78 12
St    20    3   17   0         1551         2455   38.72  6

North could not lose the double chance. But if they defeated Glenelg in Round 24, top spot was highly unlikely, when you consider that Eagles only needed to defeat either West or Norwood and/or South winning both matches against the 8th and 9th placed teams. North did lose to Glenelg, but going into that match with tanking in mind would have been rather pointless. Particularly when Eagles did beat Norwood in Round 25, and South won both of their matches.

Exactly AH, and the game is rife with sub-continent dodgy bookies.

Interesting stuff Spelly, would you have the scores of those last two rounds?
I didn't remember the Bays being still in with a real chance of marking the finals. Presuming at the time they were on a losing/inconsistent streak while the Bloods were on a winning streak?
And South scraped into top spot on % from the Eagles and neither team made the GF. How often has a GF been between 3 v 5?

West won 9 out of the last 11 to make the five. Glenelg during that time had a 4 win 7 loss record.

Glenelg were 1 win plus 1.21% behind West after Round 23, so had to win both matches against North and Port, while hoping West would lose one by a lot, or both matches against Eagles and Sturt.

Round 24:
Glenelg 19.12 North 18.6 F/Park
Port 15.15 Central 12.10 Adelaide
West 20.12 Eagles 18.8 Richmond
Sturt 9.5 South 19.15 F/Park (Monday Night)

Round 25:
Port 15.15 Glenelg 12.12 F/Park (D/H)
Eagles 13.12 Norwood 10.8 F/Park (D/H)
West 28.17 Sturt 13.11 Adelaide
Central 10.19 South 14.18 Elizabeth

Don't confuse them with maths mate.

Back onto 91 though, I was more confident of North that year than any other team ever (even Centrals recent flags).
And yes they tanked that game IMHO, didn't go out there trying to lose but didn't try to win as hard as normal. ;)
