It is Spanish - try "Shi Hwa Hwa" as an approximation.

Yes. That's the approved Anglicised version as used here and the rest of the Anglo world.

I think we can all just agree that Pyne looks... Ugly? And that it is probably an insult to either poodles or chihuahuas to compare...

Great looking beagles mate. i have grown up with at least one beagle in the family at all times, and the parents currently have two. i reckon they wouldnt stay still, and quiet, long enough to smuggle them out without getting noticed though. although if there was enough food in the backpack with them.....

yeah, most of our families beagles over the years have been generous in their dimensions! come to think about it, so have the family! great pets though, once they get old enough to not chew every single piece of furniture in the house.

Another excerpt from the novel - I'll give a little bit of background information on it. Darren Pocock is Carlyle's full back and has always been pretty soft as a player - until his girlfriend breaks up with him because 'God told her to do it'. His misery at the breakup is channelled into aggression on the football field and suddenly he's shirtfronting people and knocking them over right and left (which is good). ;) Anyway, when the girlfriend tries to get back with Pocock, Jason decides that it's not going to happen, because Carlyle are about to play finals and the last thing they need is for Pocock to go all soft again.

***********

No bloody Sunday recovery session! Three cheers! We went around to Pocock and Motty’s place for video games and a few bevvos.

Gordie and I rocked up around eleven in the morning. Motty met us at the door looking rather dejected. ‘What’s up?’ I asked him.

‘Reckon Ellice is gunna try and get back with Daz,’ he muttered. ‘She’s meant to be ringing him in a bit to talk things over.’

Bloody hell. I’m not usually one for meddling in people’s relationships, but seeing as God had already put his oar in this one… This couldn’t be allowed to happen. Pocock had been a new man on the footy field since the big bust-up. Happiness did nothing productive for his game, I can tell you. And while that might sound selfish and unsympathetic, I knew that our coach would be a lot more unsympathetic if the Shags choked in their first final since 1990.

The awesome thing about all of this was that I knew exactly how to stop Pocock and Ellice ever getting back together. It all depended on what I was doing when that telephone rang.

Pocock and Brad Nankivell were playing Lord of the Rings, which wasn’t surprising. Pokes was obsessed. He could play Lord of the Rings for three days straight and not get sick of it. ‘Give us a turn,’ I said to Brad. He handed over the controller and I settled down on the couch. Pocock was Aragorn and I was the little dwarf bloke with the axe.

We rampaged around this battle-torn city for about ten minutes, slaying orcs and other s***. Pokes was getting right into it, doing all the attack combos that involve pressing a sequence of about eight buttons in the right order – I never had any patience for that sort of thing, so I just banged around on the buttons randomly and it seemed to work all right.

Then the phone rang. Pocock went to pause the game but I punched him on the shoulder. ‘Nah, you’ll lose your momentum, man! We’ll turn the sound down instead.’ He seemed agreeable to this and gestured for Motty to bring him the phone.

So there we were, playing Lord of the Rings while Ellice was on the phone, presumably telling Pocock how God had made a mistake after all. Pokes seemed to be swallowing whatever she was saying, because he kept going ‘It’s OK, baby.’

At this point I made the dwarf run straight towards the battlements and chuck himself off the top of the city wall.

‘It’s orright, I understand, baby – what the hell are you doing?’

I held my breath and waited. And I wasn’t disappointed.

‘You killed Gimli!’ Pocock bellowed, his voice rising with every word. ‘You can’t f***ing kill Gimli! YOU’VE GOT TO HAVE ALL YOUR MAIN CHARACTERS TO UNLOCK THE BATTLE OF PELENNOR FIELDS!’

Click, went the phone.

You bloody ripper.

Just a random observation:

I don't think Marine Boy's dad likes him very much. He only ever calls him 'Marine Boy'. That would be like my dad calling me 'Katherine Ellen', which would be like you guys calling me 'Deep Sea Perch Who Is Somewhat Mad.' ;)

I think that perhaps Marine Boy was the result of his mother having a clandestine affair, or else he was created from a scientific experiment. That would go far towards explaining his father's conduct.

Maybe I read too much into these cartoons...

No, I have issues with the tinkerbell movie - and the fact that she needs her "fairy dust" to be able to fly.

That movie needs to be re-rated M15+ for drug use .
