SANFL 2011 Player Movement - Rumours and Discussions

Ralph the Rumour Monger was on AA tonight and said he heard Backwell will sign with North and despite reports Alleway has signed with the Roosters, Ralphy had him going to Norwood as mentioned.

Im stunned with both the legs this Alleway rumour has grown, and how it began .. Not that I know him personally, but he strikes me as the type that would be at the Roosters, or back to Melbourne if not at Prospect.

Of course I'd love to have him at the Parade, and he would probably be the most perfect of fits, but I just couldn't ever see it happening.

Correct me if im wrong but I seem to recall that when Alleway first came to SA his intent was to play for Norwood. I think the deal fell through when Lewis was given the coaching gig. Not sure if there was an issue there or not

I've never discussed this verbatim with anyone at the club, but I believe we had been trying to land Alleway (and Steve Kenna) last decade .. Whether his opinion of Lewis was the real reason for not signing with Norwood (given we were flat broke and wouldn't have been able to get anywhere near North's offer to him) I guess only Clint would know.

Could have been Ryswyck? (spelling?). He was due to sign with Norwood but.....well maybe we wont go there .

I have always been led to believe that Lewis was the reason he didn't go to Norwood. When did Lewis coach Norwood? Alleway came to North in 2006, was Lewis still at Norwood then?

They paid him out though. Who would pay out Alleway's contract for the next two years. Surely if it was Norwood, that would put them over the salary cap. It would be paying three times Alleway's salary.

Yeah I've certainly heard that story, allegedly Allers didn't like Lewy's laid back "beers and fun footy" chat .. Upon further investigation it does sound as though there's a bit of weight to that story.

Of course the fact that we didn't have two bob to rub together in those days was always going to make it near impossible to recruit a marquee player .. I would have given anything to get a bloke of his ability, size and style to our club.

So going by the rumours on this site and of coarse they are all true Sturt will need to replace the following players in 2011,
Thurstans, Chambers, McGlone, Nelson, Giles, Wark, Bowen, Bratton, McDonald, Evans, Johncock, Day and the only in seems to be Thompson
