I played with Thomas for many years, and found him to be very much the opposite! for someone who has been arguably the best player getting around hard wicket comps. He's very modest about himself! The guy plays with passion, and wears his heart on his sleeve! the sort of player you would love to have in your team as a matter of fact! You would have to be some sort of MORON if you wouldn't want him in your team! besides all that, opens the batting and bowling, made alot of runs and taken alot of wickets! yea no way you would want anyone like that on your team!!

every team has an ordinary day too, especially early in the season! Should probably hold off and just wait and see how cove goes at the business end of the season. pretty big call after seeing them once!!!

Hey guys why all the talk about Thomas?? Seriously good player fact! Is he a bad influence on Cove as a team? I hope so but doubt it would outweigh his input on a satday! I wish a bloke with his talent was playing for us even if he may be an arrogant shit!

Not sure what the big deal is with M.Thomas. Played a few years in the ASCA already, most guys in the higher sections would know him. Play on!

Nice theory AF.
When I captained an A&SCA side I reported 3 opposition players in my 1st season for very unsportsmanlike behaviour.
I found that this actually worked against me at the tribunal because the more visits I made to that table due to reports I lodged, more comments were coming from the committee that it must be my team instigating this behaviour.

The last instance was an opposition captain who I reported for a number of offences and was given 6 games.
On appeal he lied his ar$e off and was given 1 game and I was put on a suspended sentence.

This despite a committee member admitting to me 3 weeks later that they overheard the reported captain saying that he lied at the tribunal. But I still had that suspended sentence hanging over my head.

I never bothered reporting another player again.

On the 7x2 day games and 7x1 day games
This is an excellent idea which could work well except for some sides who can't play oneday cricket.
IMO I believe that from section 5 below should all be onedayers because it is very hard to find players committed to play every Saturday especially down in the lower grades. We would know this because our D grade are playing section 7 and still haven't played a game due to the opposition forfeited on all three games, not complaining but it would help out these lower sides.

The 7x2 + 7x1 won't work.

Too many teams will complain about the fixture if the one dayers are against weak teams.

Only way it can work would be to go to 8 team sections.

That was part of the change, each section would be 8 teams. The full details are a few pages back, start at page 14.

You would play each other twice, once in a 2dayer and once in a 1dayer, if anything it would stop teams from complaining about getting a lower ranked side in the only 1 dayer we have now.

Has any team ever complained of it before? Besides, that situation already exists... Keswick drew North Haven (who ended up being relegated) last season in the one-dayer, we finished top.

Why are we currently playing 1x one-dayer? what's the point of that?

Well the difference is that you were a player whereas umpires are theoretically impartial. I'd like to think the players wouldn't be required to do this in games with umpires.

It would be good to see a new report system whereby the umpires report is submitted and a punishment takes immediate effect based on set rules and no tribunal is required (therefore umpire not required to front the player again). Should the player disagree with the punishment they can appeal and go to tribunal but they will be at risk of doubling their sentence.

I think WYC will play the winner of Cove v Sth Road, which i was told may be decieded by a coin toss, mmmm wasn't there a problem with Sth Rd in this comp last year ???

Any club that fails to field a side for this competition should, under the current form of the competition, lose the right to field a side in the next season.

But i feel the best way to ensure that all clubs field sides is to charge an entry fee with the winning club taking the pot, or the GFinalists sharing the pot. That would eliminate all the time-waster clubs that just put thier hand up and say yes at a meeting without really thinking about it. The fee doesnt have to be huge, it shouldnt turn the smaller clubs away, but it should send out a signal that, hey, if your playing in this comp, you mean business.

South Road has wasted everybody's time for 2 years in a row i believe? with morphies hit pretty hard after south road forfieted and morphies had a sponsors day. That isn't on. And South Road shouldnt have been able to field another side in the next one.

definetely agree with a smallish t20 fee for next years comp with the grand final winners taking 75% and the runners up 25%. i think there was something like 20 teams in the comp this year? 20 multiplied by say $50? $1000 pot with the winner taking home $750 and runner up $250? has there been much discussion of a round robin format? 4 groups of 5 teams for eg? play each other once, then top of each group goes through to the semis then gf? has this format been discussed? what do blokes think?
