Not sure where you guys get your info from but he is not getting anything close to those figures. Safe to say Tanunda, Barossa, Freeling and Angaston spend a lot more than South.

ps, the comment about fullbacks not winning you games is also wrong. If full forwards can win you games and you have a fullback who can stop them them they too can win you games. I can think of half a dozen games last season where South didnt have anyone with size to stop big units like Kennedy, Duldig etc and it cost them the game.

I think you will find $1300ish

Grossly overestimated, spoke to Heath today at Elizabeth City Centre $700....

Never trust my sources again :D
He should be looking for a new manager. I was involved on club boards 15 years ago that were paying a lot more to a lot less credentialed players. $700 is bargain

What a load of BS all of this money talk for this player, rumours are probably just that. Tanunda has been on some of these wildly exagerated claims over the past few years, not saying Tanunda did fork out some serious coin (most trying to hold outstanding locals e.g Wells, Kennedy, Schiller x 2, Agars etc.) but nothing like what has been claimed. The $1300 could be halved and then a bit more taken off and it would then close to the truth.

Come on Swooper, aren't we being a bit coy on this issue. Anyone associated with a local team in the BLG or other nearby leagues know how much these guys are getting. A top tier player is asking at least $600 - 800 plus, and league footballers want more just to make the trip on Saturday. Do yo honestly think the clubs want us to know exactly how much they pay? No wonder the players themselves play down how much they're getting. As a person involved in these types of negotiations at a club, it's a bit rich (!) for some clubs to also downplay their real outlay.

I have been absolutely involved in this process and the claims that are made on the rumour mill and on this site are always completely exagerated. E.g when Mal Greenwood moved to Tanunda it was claimed he was given blocks of land over $1k a game, WRONG. Yes players are asking big coin but not $1300, that price would not be considered at our club and most others for that, and don't forget I'm argueing in favour of a rival club on this matter, I just get sick of the gross exageration.

I agree with you that the rumours are wldly exagerrated, but we've got to be realistic. Local players who are required by a club can get $400. Imports are asking more and more, and some teams seem prepared to pay. They're also prepared to horse trade as well. I've had experience with this, and it's the money they want. Soon the rumours won't be exagerrations.
Clubs won't admit how much they've spent - and remember it's not all from the club's coffers sometimes, what about generous sponsors? - because there's some tricky laws about tax around.
And how much is Greenwood getting at Freeling? I know he's coach as well, but $6oo, 700, 800? I can guess, but add that to your other imports.
Perhaps the country leagues will wake up to the fact that imports don't always win a flag; there's more to it than that. There's lots of failed teams who've realised this ie. NBL.
How many recent BLG flags have been won with an abundance of imports?

$1300 a week to play footy for 2 hours, train for 4 hours and play the playstation for 80 hours,
Sounds like Heath is living the dream in 2011.
Wish I was 3 inches taller and more talented.

Not too sure about this $1300 a game like a few others. Generally the figure for top imports is about $600 to $700 (still far too much) and when we hear some of these wild figures being thrown around it is either be from jealousy or the players themselves trying to beat up their own price. I would also be highly surprised if this players is on $1300 a game, some on this site say no he isn't and guys like Days so he is. The only way this could be true is if this apparent top gun has actually seen Souths facilities and the break down maybe $700 a game plus $300 to get changed and another $300 for compensation for items stolen.

Days is spot on. Guys do get paid $1000+ and you are kidding yourself if you dont believe this. As i posted before i have personally been involved with clubs who were paying that much in the mid 90's.
$700 is way below going rate for an ex sanfl player, whilst i do not know other clubs financials it would be a safe bet to think at least a dozen players are on a $1000 a week in the barossa

I don't believe there are a dozen players on a K a week in the Barossa, I reckon a handful are on somewhere near the money Skip suggested. Im with Swoop, players are on nowhere near the money suggested at Tanunda or Freeling. Yes Freeling does spend, but there is much more of an emphasis on getting the right people, not just good footballers, as well as providing a good club environment that people dont want to leave. It doesnt guarantee it, but it certainly helps. Definetely wouldn't pay 1300 gorillas on one player ! How would you even sustain it ?
