Im with Swoop, players are on nowhere near the money suggested at Tanunda or Freeling. Yes Freeling does spend, but there is much more of an emphasis on getting the right people, not just good footballers, as well as providing a good club environment that people dont want to leave. It doesnt guarantee it, but it certainly helps. Definetely wouldn't pay 1300 gorillas on one player ! How would you even sustain it ?

The clubs dont always pay all the money. Heaps of sponsors and club people with deep pockets. Its not only in blgfa, there is a certain hills league div 2 side whose president personally spends huge ammounts. I am led to believe he has put up an extraordinary ammount this year, about 70k for players.
I agree clubs cant sustain this but individuals can

would this be Gary Hughes by any chance? I do believe it is more than 70k but he does own a sucessful constuction company and it is his choice if he spend that my money on players for a club is loyal too. But I do agree it does make it hard for smaller clubs to compete that dont have people like this.

That would be the man. I have no problem if wealthy individuals want to pay big money to get players to their club. As long as the clubs arent paying these ammounts im happy with it.
Hence the reason i believe there are a few players on big coin, there are heaps of people willing to chip in

Days is spot on. Guys do get paid $1000+ and you are kidding yourself if you dont believe this. As i posted before i have personally been involved with clubs who were paying that much in the mid 90's.
$700 is way below going rate for an ex sanfl player, whilst i do not know other clubs financials it would be a safe bet to think at least a dozen players are on a $1000 a week in the barossa

I can absolutely tell you Jim that no player at Tanunda where or are over $1000 a week, yes Tanunda has forked out some serious dollars but that has been spread amoungst quite a few players (a lot of good locals included, trying to keep them). There is no way that there are a dozen players in this league over that amount, if so name them?

What I'm trying to say is that there are a lot of wild rumours flying out there and this happens every year, trust me in country leagues player payments are vastly exagerated for good gossip, whether it be South Gawler or Tanunda.

There are alot of rumours and i have no doubt a few are inflated. If i was a wealthy enough person id be more than happy to donate a heap of coin to get someone with lawry's history.
If rumours are true about kennedy then lawry would have to be double that. Kennedy is a fine country player but its a lot to pay for a guy not giod enough for league. No doubt being that you are close to tanunda you can probably shed more light on what he is getting this year

Comments on RMFL pages suggest around $800 for Kennedy, and he's one of a few at that club getting big bucks.
I also don't think there's too many $1k players in the BLG - perhape Lawry is the first? $800 yes, there's several.

As i said if kennedy is on $800 then lawry is worth $2000. More than twice the player

One's a proven 100 a season goalkicker in the country with the premierships to show for it. The other is a fullback who 's coming into the country and - like a lot of league footballers - expecting it to be easy. That doesn't win flags. Backmen generally don't. That's why Kennedy gets the $$$$.

Pretty sure your not referring to South when you say guys in the 90s were paid $1000+ Jim. They assembled arguably the best BLG side ever (including the the current Tanunda side) and would of only been paying about 25% of what the Blockies of today get.

This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about, it was first stated that Kennedy was getting $1200 to move to Mannun, then $1100 and now $800 to $700 a game is the figure being thrown around. There seems to be a trend here as the truth comes out the figure gets LESS.

Jim05 one of the main reasons Kennedy never really had a crack at SANFL (as he matured) is due to his work at Yalumba.

A very hand footballer is currently living in Gawler, former country club captain and rep player - yough inside midfielder who'd be a great inclusion in the BL&G.
