Glenelg Reserves record

Postby spell_check » Sat Jul 19, 2008 8:15 pm

Glenelg kicked 29 behinds today (23.29). This is a new club record, beating:

Round 11 1982
South 1.2 6.8 8.8 15.16 (106)
Glenelg 2.16 3.16 9.24 11.28 (94)

Round 5 1985
Glenelg 5.9 8.16 13.22 16.28 (124)
West 7.0 14.4 16.7 19.10 (124)

It is the equal 2nd highest number of scoring shots by Glenelg Reserves, and the equal highest number of scoring shots against South. 30.22 was scored against South in Round 17 1986, and 29.24 (the club record scoring shots) was scored against Woodville in Round 22 1984.

Hooray! Thanks Spelly.

Can you confirm that this is an all-time record?
(i.e. do you now have final Reserves scores in all Glenelg games?)

I have found it hard to get any scores prior to 1924, but from what I've got, I can say that for certain it is a record. Glenelg did not make the 4 in either 1921, 1922 or 1923, and scores were quite low, lower than the League, up until about 1927.

Spelly, I sense something remarkable here. Given that five years later in the league match at the same venue Glenelg 16.22 drew with West 19.4 in the only draw in which one side kicked three more goals than the other, can you confirm that the only occurrence of this in reserves came with the same two sides kicking the same number of goals as they did in the league draw?

There was one other occasion where a draw in the Reserves had one side kicking three goals more (or less)

Round 12 1928
North 1.8 5.19 8.23 12.33 (105)
Port 4.4 5.5 12.11 15.15 (105)
