Wow what a read over the past handful of pages!

Firstly, why don't Marion and Morphetville Park combine to make one super packet of chips and get rid of that stupid oval that morphies play on.
OR
It's kind of a no-brainer to the rest of the state the sfl has needed to return to a twin division comp for some time - using a relegation system.

As for juniors, I know that when points hit country footy some very smart clubs started buying up local junior talent and SANFL under age signatures (SANFL players would use the club as a home club incase they were dropped, injured etc.). Smart as when these SANFL players didnt make the cut they were considered zero point senior footballers who had come through the SANFL system and then were really worth somoething. A club in particular offered an incentive to under age footballers and their PARENTS that they'd get 50 bucks for every mate they brought out who signed up and played - this club not only filled a team and some, they made finals that same year. Again - this was not the SFL and the senior side they had on the park was competitive enough not to embarrass the under-ages too much...

Two divs or die!

Hey here's a last minute thought, split junior and senior competitions completely! A,B, C and under 18 (or whatever) and the rest is up to these clubs to promote and work with the junior clubs to create pathways.... maybe its being done I dont know.

Junior footy. This is where I get a bit pissed off by wankers saying that we don’t work hard enough on getting kids into our footy club. Give me a break; we work just as hard if not harder on trying to get kids to our club. 2 years ago we only had and under 8 and 10 team, last year we had 8’s, 10’s, 12’s and 14’s. The under 14’s even played finals in their first year. This year we will have under 16’s to add to that list. From what I have read in the last few pages people out there think we only spend money on our senior players and give nothing to our juniors. They could not be any more wrong. People say give them cheap subs or even free, funny we did that last year. This year I would say we have the cheapest subs in the SFL and we will keep trying to get kids to our club any way we can. If this means chucking in free shorts and socks and anything else we can think of then we will do it, if some of our sponsors want to pay for some of the kids subs well we will let them. There aren’t too many kids out there that play footy and aren’t involved in a club in some way, so if that’s where we have to get them from we will try our best. What we can offer kids is a game every week, not missing out every 2nd week or sitting on the bench for a half a game because that club has too many kids. All the clubs with dual teams good luck to you but if clubs like us, Marion, OSB,Aldinga and any other struggling club folds it may be a bit boring playing the same 4 teams all the time for a whole season.

Nobody has an issue with with clubs trying to attract juniors, however clubs buying juniors is that really sending the right message? What culture will this create? The Gordon Ghecko Culture 'Greed is Good' will it really encourage kids to play for you or will they then be looking to who has a better offer next year or asking the club for something more to stay? What pressure will this place on kids they will be effectively paid servants of the club. How long can any club financially support buying 40 or more sets of shorts and socks each season or do you pick and choose who gets them and then have other issues with parents and kids who don get the freeby. Sounds good on the surface as a way to attract kids but is fraught with danger.

Good club culture development and pathways to senior footy or higher is the best way to attract people to your club.

Yes football travels in cycles and we all end up at one end or the other eventually. Maybe some mergers are the way for clubs to survive and be viable in this little pool of Southern Adelaide.

OSB tried it 2 years ago with the under 14s, and got not takers, then last year when they were charging subs managed to get an under 14 team together.

Agree Junior subs are way over the top at the big clubs.
Been out to watch training at the valleys and looks like they
have lost a few. But heard the valleys have an open chq book.
Matt Dent will have a long year i feel. Although training has been good.

Still needs two divs or chop some clubs off, the cycle has gone on long enough that clubs are now in trouble and all the culture in the world hasn't fixed it so far.

Saw the Cove football club going for a leisurely jog last night down at Seacliff, good numbers for them, looked like close to 40 to 50 blokes. I didn't see Luke Button out there but I could have missed him. I did see a little Heater struggling at the back though!

Had 68 in the end pretty good numbers with the heat. Big Luke was out there showed a few younger lads how to swim. I think he will be a very good addition to the Cove line up.

think valleys are going to struggle to fill an U18s side this year - only 4 have turned up to training this year with many already indicating they wont be back - lets hope there are lots of players who are not available cos they are playing cricket at the moment!!

Sh*t. That is a huge worry if a traditionally strong junior (and senior) club like Valley is struggling to fill an U 18's side.

couldnt agree more moe, now just need a few more clubs to start thinking like that at board level and it might just happen
