But I wonder how he will go after a few years off. He'd have to be into his 30s by now.
I would have thought that if anyone was to take it on, it would be Joe Pedler!!! Captian/coach. & everone would respect him

Agreed that Pedler would be a good option. Not sure if he would want to appoint himself as skipper though. From what I hear he was the key to delivering Old Iggies their flag last season. I would think Calabrese would be very well respected at Old Iggies as well. I remember playing against him a few years back and we'd try drag him out of the game- not because he was a particularly damaging player (he was a good ruckman but I never felt he did that much damage around the ground) but because his voice and presence around the play would lift his team.
On another note- great news for ROCS with Matty Dawes pulling on the jumper for them. Rock solid player and bloke- the sort you can really build a side around.

Maybe they will go with someone oung but been around for a few years. Pat Connelly is a quality player, only thing is Im not sure if he is vocal enough to be the captain. Others may disagree though, sure he has the respect of the playing group though!

I think you will find players such as Kerins (who they rate quite highly at the club), O'Loughlin, Connelly and even Romeo will be an option. And I wouldn't have thought Calabrese would be a walk in start to the A grade either - Boyd and Schar were a dominant pair last year and some would argue the fact they nullified PAOC ruckmen in the grand final went a long way to winning the game for Iggies.

Threestars- I seriously doubt your understanding of the game if you think Calabrese will be playing 2s. He was a rock solid SANFL ruckmen who might be getting on a bit now but wouldn't be getting any smaller. If he's no good for the A grade at Iggies, we'd be on the phone to him in an instant... That sort of experience and presence is invaluable at Div 2 level.
As for Kerins, I thought he was a Scotch old boy? I assume he has jumped ship given their slide down the divisions.
Anyway, I know I started this discussion but I think it has run its course (the way it is going, we'll have 21 options for captyain at Iggies)- I'm sure all clubs will announce their leadership groups as we move into trial games.

I'll second that JM. Quality club men like Calabrese are like gold and I know the Iggies faithful have been hoping for him to return for a long time. Its a pity he didn't get the chance to play in last season's flag- there aren't too many at the club who you could say would be more deserving for their efforts.
I think you will find Threestars has something against the big fella- I reckon he even made a suggestion that he would be playing C Grade when he comes back some time ago. I think Breezer must have dominated his missus or something like that because Threestars holds a hell of a grudge (check out half his posts on last few years' Div 3 forum)!

Orts got nothing against the Big Breezer, just being realistic. JMadden asked the question whether he will be captain and I played a straight bat back to the answer. Not suggesting Breezer will be in the 2s nor is not a chance for the captaincy but the club has changed since his time there.....

I dont know the bloke but surely the playing group wouldnt be overly happy if some guy just strolled back in after a few seasons away and took the captaincy! No matter of past experience or how good he is. If that was the case then atkinson should have been captaining Iggies last season!
Iron Fist- knowing big Breezer, I doubt he would even accept the captaincy if offered to him. He is club through and through and I am sure he would do what is in the best interest of the team (which I would think would be to go with someone a bit younger who has a few more years of footy left in them)...
Every one else has been mentioned for Old Iggies Captaincy so im gonna throw up "The human **** rugg" Sam "Chewbacca" Janetski. Probably to young to be an option but he is a mate and i didnt want him to feel left out

too hairy possibly as well?
he's booked out a waxing joint for the day so that this can no longer be held against him

FWIW, I don't think a player could come back from overseas and expect to slot immediately straight back into the A grade, let alone assume the captaincy! I'm sure given the quality of players mentioned above, the coaching staff will find someone of great calibre to lead their team (that's if Frinsdorf even gives up the captaincy which is heresay).
Anyway, hopefully div 2 will be a high quality, even competition this year. Plenty of teams look to be around the mark.
Walkerville also have dom barlow, brother of michael barlow. Is a solid lad, but with a good preseason looks like he may be a gun. loves the competitive stuff.
