would like the experts opinion on here whether its time that this league changed to u15s and u17halfs,just looking at the teams that stuggle with junior numbers and the fact that when some senior colts go up,1 they are sometime not quite ready 2 some reserves sides dont have enough room for them all to play every week so they go to gawler to play a extra yr in a grade and dont return, this would also line us up with other leagues around, other fact is and this happens at EVERY CLUB,more imports come in and then friends of friends playy some do miss games in reserves,a extra yr would mature some better and make them better prepared for senior footy.

I fully agree with u MM. There are kids that leave because they want to play another year in 17s, then they never return to the club. I think its a no brainer

It's an interesting question - alignment with BL&G is good idea to prevent that movement away by those few that feel for whatever reason to need another season at colt level. However I don't know if the numbers would support it, my gut feeling is that Senior colts would struggle for numbers with raising the age of Junior colts to U15. Two Wells has had consistent good numbers over the past decade at SC level, don't think the numbers would be there with 17 1/2 and 15s. Those clubs that have been "just" managing numbers would be better qualified to give an opinion, but I think these clubs would struggle under the suggested age brackets.

Prob right there Jumbo. I would prob just raise the 17s the 17s and a half. I suppose that im just speaking from our clubs perspective.

I'm with norm11 on this one. Keep the juniors the same age bracket and increase the senior colts to 17s 1/2 to keep those older kids in our league.

Which clubs are most affected by the junior exodus? It's a valid point to raise.
I reckon they play under 18s still in the Riverland.
When I was in Whyalla they changed from under 18 to under 17 to come into line with the SANFL, then the SANFL went to under 18s. Lol
Would you prefer a switch to under 18s straight out?

Its a question that comes up often and I guess it will continue to come up. From our clubs perspective I see no advantage in doing this as to my knowledge we don't lose players to the BL&G. I can see clubs like Hamley, Mallala, Two Wells and Virginia may lose a kid every once in a while, but for us Balak and Hummocks no kid is going to travel that far just to play another year of underage. Numbers in Senior colts aren't really a problem at Two Wells or Mallala and Virginia had good numbers in this grade last year. As for Hamley Bridge, well I think they lose more kids to RSMU than anywhere else and the NEFL like the YPFL have an under 17 like us, so obviously the kids are leaving Hamley for different reasons than getting an extra year of colts.

For me, no need to change it.

I was reading the back page of the Proddy last night and was interested to read all about Mallala's 3 new recruits refering to a story on page 19. For the life of me I couldn't find the story anywhere even after reading every story from front page to back page (15 minutes).

I wish I could say that was done on purpose. I've been assured by those responsible it will be in next week.
Make of that what you will. I'll believe it when I see it. Pretty annoyed about it to be honest. Ah well, great article about the Tigers and their junior recruiting campaign!

Fair call MC, I think your on the money. Mallala certainly don't have the same senior colt numbers as say a TW and Virg, last year they had around the 17-18 players and always had to play a few jnr colts. There has already been 2-3 seniors from last year head to Gawler to get that extra year. I can't see any real issues with increasing the age limit. Often the top young senior colts in the higher age bracket (171/2) would be pushing for if not playing A grade anyway. It just takes away the fact that they would be running around in the B grade if they are not picked in the A grade. At most clubs I think it would be far better for their development to get another year in the colts, often under far more proactive and effective coaches, rather than be forced to play B grade under a coach that is all about winning and getting blind during the A grade. I can't see the benefits of keeping the age at 17 myself. JMO. If it means retaining colts in our league then I don't see an issue. There must be senior colts that leave the club as soon as they finish playing colts at all clubs, whether thy quit footy all together or play else where, keeping them in the league for an extra would only benefit the number of juniors in our league. Its a no brainer for me....in case you havent realised!! :D

I actually thought about this when i was running around in the 17's still. But only coz i was sick of winning all the time. Theres always a gap in colts!

I would rate him a little higher than that UTP. Recent premiership player from a neighbouring league.

Talking about the town between two rivers, I hear Sponge is salivating at the return of favorite son Barry Burgess.
Expect 60-70 goals from the power forward.
