Salisbury West have recruited well, a good mix of experience to blend in with the youngsters.
A good clean out is what that club needed, i hope it holds them in good stead for the year.

Top 3 is my prediction.

Looks like the same round 1 opponent as last year, this time away from home. Looks like LM will have to buy us a drink first this year.

OK, here's the scoop, it's not official yet I don't think but Smithfield is highly unlikely to be in div 5. It is disappointing to see what length's some clubs go to in their attempts to lure players, especially from a sinking ship. We've had some of the following scenario's:
Players being told by other clubs it's all good to go there because they have been officially told that we are folding.
Clubs gettind sh!tty with players not making a decision yet to see if Smithfield are going to be around.
Former players giving numbers to clubs of other players to try luring them out there.

Obviously the days have gone for playing for your local and where you grew up, the SAAFL and other leagues has become somewhat of a "big business", money talks and bidding wars have been rife.

In saying that, I'd like to say well done to Carey Payne who has had Smithfield's existence in his best interests before having a crack at any of our players, he has liaised with me to get updates on how we are travelling and not in a selfish way.

It's been a blast on here over the past few season's, I've got to meet some wonderful club people and gained a lot of insight into how other clubs operate.

I guess I wont be on this thread much longer and I wish all other clubs the best of luck for this season and beyond.

Always good chatting to the likes of zedman, Executive Member, Dark Knight, Ash Man, S Demon, Jabber, Mr Beefy, Demon Juke, sprinter and the list goes on, it takes many different kinds to make up a club and an association and I've been wrapt that I've had the experience through this site over the years.

I apologise for anyone that I haven't mentioned, there's been too many.

Regards

Very dissapointing news for smithfield LM. Hopefully if it is confirmed that smithfield can work hard off the field and begin to become a force in the saafl in the not too distant future. Best of luck mate.

Not good news at all LM
And it has been a pleasure to give you crap while you are "umpiring"
Is it possible to put one team on the park in a C Grade to keep the club going?

Possibly, most of the playing group will go, they'll only cop heaps for playing in a C Grade comp. most of the boys want to stick together but that will be impracticle given the points system and zones etc.

Well written, im sure with a heavy heart.

The important thing to remember here is that you aren't the first club to go through these types of issues, and there is precedence of clubs clawing thier way through it and coming out a stronger united club at the other end.

One thing that your club has done, which is very responsible, is realise the issues reasonably early, pop yourself down into a lower div, which perhaps plympton should have done when all its players left in 04.

Watch out LM, he's a predator...he lures you with alcohol and next thing you know you're doing the hard yards ;)

Shocking news for the Smiffys but I guess goes to show how the $ (or lack of) is ruining our "amateur" system.

Would be especially disappointing for the likes of yourself, Kelly and others that have put so much hard work into the place.
