Thanks Leaping Lindner. Tell me, do you have info on how to access player games and goals for 1907,1909 and 1915 as no annual reports in State Library. Regards.

I've got player records for those years that I worked out from "The Register" (no annual reports have been found from those years as far as I know). PM me your email if want copies.

Leaping Lindner. Can you tell me how many games Frank Odlum and Charlie Nitschke played for NA. I notice in some notes you gave me that Odlum came off the bench in one game in 1907 but it doesn't count. Also I read elsewhere that Nitschke was secretary who occasionally stripped when the team was short. Is this correct.

Southern Fan my sincere apologies for not getting back to you. I've been sidetracked with other projects I have on the go as well as being slack. Once again sincere apologies.

Charles Nitschke was a founding member of The Medindie Football Club when they were established in the early 1880's by a group of Students from PAC and (the now defunct) Whinham College. Nitschke went to PAC.
Prior to the club joining the SAFA Nitschke had captained the side as well (when they were in The Adelaide and Suburban Association). Nitschke began as Secretary of Medindie in 1887 (one year prior to joining the SAFA) and held the post until 1897. He became Assistant Secretary for 1898 and after that held the position of club patron until his death in 1921.
Now to answer your actual question  . We can't work out an exact number of games due to the spasmodic nature of player records from those times but match reports would indicate that he played at least a handful of games in the seasons 1888 - 1897. As a matter of interest he played in Medindie's first league match in 1888 (vs Port at Alberton). As you've said he seems to have only stripped when the numbers were short, which is a little odd as there is no doubt he had ability and Medindie you would think could have used his experience on the field. Even in the two photos I have seen of Medindie (from 1888 and 1889) he is dressed in a suit and not playing gear.

One list I have lists Fred Oldum as playing 12 games between 1904 and 1906. I'm going to have to double check that match report from 1907.

Bear in mind, some of these have played since that book was produced.
The ones that I reckon should not be on there, however :
Shane Bennett -- N.A ?
Kim Chatfield -- wasn't he at Woodville ?
Jack Chinnery is Lavington Chinnery
George Dean is Lancelot George Dean
A.Goodger is Edward, presumably.
John Marchioro -- W.T ?
Ray Grimm is Ray Gimm
Stephen Hauth -- probably S.A. -- Not NWD, as far as I know.
Tyson Hay -- would have looked good in a Redlegs jumper, but alas ...
Bill Heinrich -- yes, William H.
Bernie Lawton -- definitely at Norwood
Charles Woods and Bunny Daly -- derfinitely played for the club.
Sam Gallager -- is Kevin Gallagher
Guys like, Walls, Turner,Russell,Heuskes, Hoye,Fletcher,H.Dillon,Devlin, Dennis, have all played since the book came out.
Hope this helps.

It might be up to someone to confirm if he only played juniors for North or otherwise.

Douglas Warhurst

Who is Douglas Warhurst? Dudley Arthur Warhurst played for North from 1935 until 1940 before captain coaching West Whyalla during the War years. He was selected for the SANFL state squad but did not make the state team. He once kicked 6 goals in a league match in which Ken Farmer played.

Is this one of the statisticians "deliberate errors"?

I'm not sure where Douglas came from, Douglas Warhurst was a West player. Ian, you might want to change that to Dudley, then.

Thanks ML,

while I was editing the list I noticed that 2 F r e d e r i c k s have been hit with the curse of the swear filter, is there any way around it, the one I use on the Roost doesn't work here.

You'll have to make one of the letters bold or in a different colour:

Frederick

That is, the i is coded in the font colour on the top left hand corner of the palate.
