I_luv_footy_2 wrote:The Goal Umpiring decision that cost South the Game on Saturday was one of many disgraceful decisions throughout the day that affected BOTH teams. It seemed that one Umpire had a real issue with a particular South Player (who was yellow carded by him in the third quarter) and was then heard bragging about their past differences in the bar after the game. Seems it stems back to Central District Underage days.... not very Professional was the general feeling that I got in the bar... As an observer standing not 20 feet from that particular goal I clearly saw the Central Umpire run in and question the Goal Umpire. I thought that the Goal Umpire was the one who decided if he needed clarification? Apart from that, it was a hard fought game and both teams showed glimpses of brilliance, Nuri should have sealed it in the third qtr but Souths come-back in the last was great footy to watch.

Sure it was, two quality teams that will give the competition a real shake this year. NOT

Angaston v Freeling- Tested Gawler centrals last weekend and think they will be to good for freeling
Willaston v Gawler Central- Should be a good contest i think Gawler Centrals to win in the match of the round.
South Gawler v Kapunda- South to beat Kapunda easy
Barossa District v Nuriootpa- Barossa showed they are still going to be a force this year just losing to Tanunda im tipping barossa but not by a big margin.

Freeling - close one, going for the green machines boys first round excitement
Gawler Central - local derby always fierce but the tigers should be too good for the donnies
Kapunda - dejavu for the lions
Bulldogs - nuri to give them a test upto half time
The writing is on the wall - learn to read and you might survive

What's the deal with Freeling playing a trial match last week against Riverton. Did they? and if they did, is this allowed in the bl&g - playing a trial during the season on a bye? I know it's not legal in other leagues. Will they be penalised or will our benevolent league look the other way?

I agree, but there's a big kerfuffle about this in APFL, and a team may lose points, played a game on a bye against team who haven't started yet from another league. I wasn't sure of rules. They do gain the advantage of match fitness though, so they're on an equal footing to other 8 clubs.

cant see it being a problem if its the first bye of the season, as long as its not midway through. Otherwise it can be a disadvantage having the Bye Round 1 as you could go into the season without a game for a fortnight, and you need them more later in the season when injuries mount up

Why should Freeling be allowed to play on their bye when all the other clubs have no opportunity to play a trial game on their bye as there is no opposition to play against with all leagues up and running.

Im sure tanunda and angaston especially would love a trial game over the next couple weeks given they are facing 3 weeks without a game. IMO its an unfair playing field and shouldnt be allowed. I wonder if freeling got approval from the league?

Could be a very costly decision to young Mal Maninga's premiership challenge.
Only one club in the BL&G could get away with that.

explain to me, how it is sooooooo unfair for them to play a trial game? its not there fault that they've got a bye first round, maybe they programmed there pre-season to start a week later because of it. Teams can play an internal trial during there bye week if they want to.

checked out constitution in the Leader Book and no rule not allowing a team to play on a bye that I could see.
Directors should look at this however and make a ruling.
As Days said only time it could happen as all leagues now playing.
Could Tanunda play the team that has a bye in the APFL and show them how far behind they are of the BLGFA teams

Winners this week
Freeling-in a tight match by 12 points
Centrals-Donnies bubble to burst going down by 5 goals
Barossa-good ouitfit with plenty of youth by 20 points
South-better than last weeks effort and to win by 15 points

Bit harsh on Sharpy I would've thought, not certain a crew-cut counts as bald.
Not sure you will fill a team anyway, the qualifications will end up being must be bald and have played in BL&G recently,
Talent will not be part of the criteria. I suspect you were just trying to get a rise out of the great man C.Harvey.
Nice work on putting out the fire though UTP, the lads were getting Antsy about Freelings trial-match.
Who really cares??? A trial is never as intense as round 1's game anyway and having the bye in round 1 fairly sux.
