Could seriously play, pity we didnt get to see more of him.

What did Adrian McAdam get up to after his short stint at North Melbourne?

Got traded to Collingwood after disappearing from North Melbourne. Lasted about 2 weeks there. Went back to Alice Springs and belted an umpire and got 10 year ban. Made a brief comeback when his ban was up, but didn't last long. Has been playing cricket in the NT. Went to school with Adrian. Still the most skilled sportsman I have witnessed.

Indeed. Played on the wing in the 1961 premiership team, had incredible pace and good skills. State player as well. Had 5 seasons with West, then 4 with North Melbourne in the VFL. Later played with Dandenong and Williamstown in the VFA.

I'll also throw in John Clarke, played for Norwood 1977 to 1981, was accredited as the best 1st year player in the SANFL for 1977.

His (much) elder brother Joey wasn't a bad player either. I was surprised to hear that they were brothers, they were the most unlikely builds to be brothers. (I guess Trevor and Peter Obst were the least similar brothers I have ever seen). John was a very thickset flanker. Joey was a tall rangy ruckman for Torrens who had a touch of Adam Goodes about him. Of course he wasn't nearly as good nor nearly as consistent, but he was a very good mover.

I had always been told Joe Clarke was John's uncle, but I don't know that for sure.

I have newspaper articles here that refer to John Clarke as Joe Clarke's brother, actually they only played about 7 or 8 years apart, which isn't that long a distance especially when you consider the difference in age between John and David Payne for example or Ian and Ross Brewer but newspapers are notorious for getting this sort of thing wrong.

Joe was also a talented basketballer and represented South Adelaide in the district competition, which is why I'm still confused about the problems Barrie Robran had when he wanted to play basketball for South Adelaide.

Apparently he could send them down pretty sharp as well, played 3 games of cricket for Eastern Park many years ago.

Gilbert McAdam is one of the best players I have seen, period.
I remember seeing him destroying sides with his sublime skill & pace at Centrals and in Norths juniors a few years earlier.
If he played in better AFL sides when he went over there, he'd have the accolades of Wanganeen, Goodes & McLeod.
IMHO is the equal of those stars.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

I agree leftlegger. I remember him playing against us at Richmond one day and it was as good a performance as I'd ever seen in the SANFL.

However, he was the first Aboriginal to win the Magarey.
Still the only one?

On this fact alone, I think it would be an oversight not to pick him.

Was Mike Poulter aboriginal? He had darker skin and was from Darwin, but I never did know if he was aboriginal or not. All I cared about is how well he played.

And I never knew Mark Naley was indigenous.
