If you are suspended you can not be a match day official or step onto the oval at all, so no you cant be the runner. However, with association suspensions they are not "suspended" but are made "unavailable" to play for one week by the league. This is so it doesnt go on the players record.

Millsy was our runner last week and since it was the league that made him "unavailable" to play we checked with them before the game and they said it was fine since he wasn't "suspended". The same thing happened last year when Lurch was still able to do his team manager role in the colts even though he was "unavailable" after the association game.

Are there two sets of rule books?

There is your answer why he got 2 weeks. I obviously wasnt there but striking someone with a forearm/elbow is the same as a punch even if he was so called protecting himself. If Gilbert says it was a high strike then its obvious that there is something in it.

Tips, tough round, tough round.
Balak 1-39: Close call but I reckon our boys can knock them off.
United 1-39: Christmann, in their top 5 players, out. United should be too good.
Mallala 40+: Not sure how the Pies go at Lochiel.

Dropped Jared Crmlec with a cheap high shot. Not like young Crml's would of been trying to clean him up, is 70 kg's tops dripping wet.

Well christmann probably weighs the same and he was running flat out. Needed to protect himself or he still would have copped a solid sheppard. Yes he did collect him high but connected with cmrlecs shoulder first then head, and Christmann did not change momentum to go at him. Thats how i saw it from 4m away anyway. Would not say it was a cheap shot.

I am just more annoyed with the lack of equality in the tribunal decisions and or umpires reports. Also feel that Christmann may have suffered a little unfairly as a result of the Two Wells vs. Hamley events the week previous, which were thrown out I might add. I think the tribunal had their mind made up before any evidence was given.

Oh well, what is done is done. We move forward!

I have heard first hand two commisioners discussing whether or not they were going to give a player two weeks or three before they went into the room to set up the table to hear a report for undue rough play and striking.
People who bought this book also bought a stool and some rope. Unknown literary critic

Not surprising SP.

Some of the questions I was asked (as witness) were actually a joke and completely irrelevant to the case and it was a real worry they asked them at all.

Your trying to defend him yet keep saying he hit him high, That is why he got games, nothing to do with circumstances. Tribunal will always take the word of an umpire and so they should. The only way he would have got off is if you took Cmrlec to the tribunal with you and he told them it wasnt high. Do the crime do the time!

Firstly MC you were not at the game. Nor were you in the hearing.

I heard the umpires evidence and it was far from convincing. But the young lad was pretty nervous.

In my opinion 2 weeks was harsh... based upon other penalties and reports I have seen over the years. Based upon some incidents I have seen thrown out with suspended sentences.

If they want to be consistent and give 2 weeks for every incident like Christmann's, then great! However there will be some very very good players, with very very famous names, spending a lot of time on the sidelines.

Problem: It was right in front of the umpire, who immediately reported him and sent him off.

Yes, two weeks is harsh for what it was, but surely you can't claim Aaron was trying to protect himself?

Here's my take: He was frustrated with putting in the chase but Cmrlec's block meant he was never going to get to the Balak player with the ball. So, in a small brainfade, he gave Cmrlec a cheap, glancing blow to the head with his elbow/forearm.

I agree, FGH, that the incident itself probably would have been ignored by umpires 100 times before and maybe a downfield free awarded and that's it.

He's a good bloke and it was out of character but perhaps Aaron is unfortunately the victim of the events from a few weeks back.

Blatant and reckless, yes. Reportable, probably not. Two weeks is definitely harsh.
