Grant Coffee. Kicked 13 goals at Elizabeth against South?, 4 or 5 weeks later dropped, never to play league again.

He was player/coach of my side in the Barossa, good player and a decent bloke too.

That bag of 13 goals was against the Double Blues at Elizabeth from memory.

I asked him about this recently and he said not to go there so obviously not a amicable parting.

That being said, he's been back at the club in varying roles since then inlcuding coaching the Dogs Under 18's.

Four players were recruited from other SANFL clubs to the Eagles for 2006. Three of these players ended up in the premiership side; the other played the first six matches and spent the rest of the year in the Reserves. Travis Oakley kicked 5 goals in the first round; 7 over the next five and that's as far as he advanced his League career with the club - he went to the WAFL the following year.

Here's one for the South supporters. Paul Heeps kicked 6 goals against Sturt at Unley in 1980 bringing Paul Bagshaw to comment it was the most perfect exhibition of goalkicking he'd ever seen. It seems he did very little else.

I was only 8 in 1980 but that was the first year I went to games regularly. I remember going to Port v South at Adelaide Oval that year, I would study the team lists in the Budget, I recall names like Mousley, Linke, Slattery but that name "Heeps" is not one I can recall (not saying I don't believe you AH, just saying the name didn't leave an impression on me).

Its amazing how someone can make a big impression in 1 or 2 games, but essentially be a nobody remembered by very few people.

..one I thought of was Warren Ralph. He probably doesn't belong in this thread, but I'm curious, does anyone have his playing record? From memory he played perhaps 10 or so games, I recall he had 1 or 2 decent games, or was he just a complete dud best known for winning the Lottery?

Ralph played 21 games for 72 goals for Carlton. Prior to that he kicked season tallies of 87, 127, 105 & 123 for Claremont from 1980-83. Only played the one season for Glenelg kicking 30 goals in 14 games. Returned to Claremont where he topped their goalkicking with 75 in each on 1987 & 1988. Not a complete dud I wouldn't think.

Not a complete dud I agree, but certainly didn't live up to expectations whilst at Glenelg. In all he obviously had a very impressive career.

Cracked the league team late in '88.

IIRC, played a blinder on the wing against Glenelg in round 20.

Unlucky to miss out on a GF spot after Mark Warton was ruled out with injury.

Played a few more games in '89 to bring his career tally to seven.

Could play but from what I've heard wasn't the most dedicated player running around.

Trigger's emergance made it virtually impossible for him to get a game...

FWIW, he went to Millicent in 1990 (think that's the correct year) with Russell Johnston, Phil Harrison and Big Colin Branolt where they played in a losing grand final side but Millicent didn't have much more success after that until recently.

Johnno left Alberton at the end of 1990 but yeah, there was a little exodus to the country.

He was actually about 25 years of age when he kicked that bag, He had been a junior at West Torrens with Neville Roberts. In fact he may have gone to Henley High with Roberts. I don't think that he played league at Torrems though.
