Re: Eastern Eyre Footy
I heard Rudall & Cleve have merged with the new name Eastern Rangers. Who would have thought this was possible. When I was involved at Cowell this would have been impossible. Any suggestions on colours & nickname? This leaves the league with only 4 teams which will cut out the bye. Any talk of other teams moving from other leagues?

Re: Eastern Eyre Footy
The name Eastern Rangers and colours of blue & white were published before Rudall had even had their vote.
I am sensing the Cleve contingent of the merger committee are having more say than their Rudall counterparts. It has now become obvious that Cleve wanted this merger more than Rudall and now that it is going ahead will the Rudall members take on a more pro active involvement in the future decision making of the new club.
Interesting to note that following the Cleve media release that their members were in favour of a merger, was the declaration that next season there would be a 12 round fixture. It also mentioned a later start to the season.
I would think that Cowell & Kimba with new clubrooms and extensions would welcome the extra home games a 15 round season would bring, as would Ports.
Cleve should also remember that the new Cleve/Rudall consortium will only get one vote at league meetings.

you make some interesting points wasp, they should never have made a media release until rudall members had voted, has to be 15 rounds of footy played a maximum of 8 home games and one final each year with, and just remember the rudall/cleve consortium only get one final a year so cleve to have it one year then rudall the next

Re: Eastern Eyre Footy
Pity about that. Rudall's oval is usually one of the best. Actually loved the country setting there.
Of all the grounds in the league, I rate Rudall the best (both for surface and general facilities), followed by:
Cleve (traditional home of the league I guess, good changerooms and plenty of viewing spots)
Buckleboo (great facilities and quaint country setting)
Port Neill (not great facilities or surface but great country venue)
Cowell (windy but ground was always in good nick)
Kimba (as above but everything is 10kms from the oval)
Arno Bay (windy and poor facilities)

Re: Eastern Eyre Footy
The only fault with Rudall is the direction the cricket pitch runs. You can be running along and unexpectedly get bogged in it. Other than the pitch a good surface to run on with an even bounce and close to the crowd. Changerooms are'nt bad either.
Good atmosphere at Cleve from the terraces which has disappeared in the last few years. Look forward to it returning next year. Wonder if the Rudall supporters will still stand on the opposite terrace.
You would be very impressed with the new facilities Kimba now OS.

Re: Eastern Eyre Footy
One of the positives if you have a 15 round season it will help with club finances by not having to have the byes. This will give all clubs extra home matches and more revenue. One of the advantages living in the Adelaide and supporting clubs is the extra matches played. The Amateur and Hills League play 18 fixtures. I am not suggesting this in the EEFL, but 15 should be reasonable.

Re: Eastern Eyre Footy
I would have thought by only having 12 games a year you will also lose players to leagues that play more games to. You need atleast 15. As much as i hate Rudall basically folding and really dont want it to happen i reckon the name and colours sound good. Still dont know how the two clubs are going to get on together. I'd definitely like to be a fly on the wall when a meeting between Grantly Siviour vs Cleve members takes place!!

Just Far West and Broken Hill, who both have been for a long time. Mid Murray in their last year and until recent times Woomera.
I wonder if it could still remain a 5 team competition. Many disenchanted Rudall members could be lured to Lock, if Lock were prepared to affiliate with Eastern Eyre - something to ponder.
Apparantley Grantley was'nt seen at football on Saturday.

That is interesting as we had a club in the Hills League called Eastern Rangers. They were an amalgamation of Ashton and Lenswood Ranges if I remember correctly. They wore St Kilda jumpers (red/white/black) and played at Ashton oval (in the fog most weeks).
I believe they then merged with nearby Uraidla football club to form "Uraidla Districts Football Club". (Not really a merger as there is nothing really left of the old Eastern Rangers Football Club).
They still have a cricket team though that plays in the HCA "C" & "D" grades with colour red/white/black.

Re: Eastern Eyre Footy
Hard to go past Kimba in A, 9 goals and B's, 6 goals. Maybe a few surprise inclusions for Ports this weekend.
Great effort by Ports to finish top 2 in both senior grades at end of minor round. Was only three years ago the senior teams couldn't win a game.
