Favourite Port Adelaide Player?

Postby Sojourner » Tue Aug 30, 2011 1:43 pm

Plenty of class players came through Port Adelaide in the years that I have been watching SANFL footy for, so I find it really hard to come up with only a few names to put forward.

Because I said Favourite and not Best, I leave it at the two,

Russell Ebert for just simply being a legend of the game, and Roger Delaney for being a sheer hard nut player that emphasised just the physcial on field strength that made Port the dominant club in the 80s-90s!

my favorite port adelaide footy player was greg phillips love how he dominated CHB and how many careers of promising young forwards did he wreak just with his aggression and his ability to read the footy was brilliant.

second favorite was scott hodges for his match winning ability, and i think if the crows had of had different coach when they first came in to the AFL he could of been a champon at AFL level

Rex Johns without a doubt - although I hated him at the time.
It was impossible not to respect his ability to win the ball himself from packs and kick goals, as well as taking the marks when it was kicked to him.

Bunch of thugs and I hate every last one of them.

But the ones I hate least would be:

Russell Ebert (natch)
Russell Johnston
Richard Ambrose - very underrated player. I liked his demeanour; was as cool as a cucumber.

Way ahead of his time too with fitness and professionalism.
One of the only guys to play as well at the end of his career as the start of it.
And could have played for Australia in the mid-late 80s if he wanted to chuck football.
