Who the f**k chooses to use a 2-piece ball on turf? seriously.
Regardless, the 2-piece balls held up ok and it was a really fun game, much banter and chuckles to be had, the game was played in great spirits and both sides enjoyed the challenge of playing on a real cricket pitch despite the pathetic and juvenile instructions given to your captain.
What happened between you writing your first and second paragrahs?
You've gone from a blistering bake to a love fest. How much has been written about the use of these balls over the last few weeks on here?

Get used to it I reckon, players are going to want to play with the balls they train with and play with all the time. Who in Their right mind would want to use a foriegn ball in a game of cricket! Surely keswick werent that naive.
You are already asking players to play on a foreign surface, what more do u want!
Here's an idea, if you want to play on turf and use 4 piece balls why don't you go to a comp that plays on turf and uses 4 piece balls all the time. Or are you just happy trying to be a big fish in a small pond and dictate to the clubs what they should and shouldn't do.

I'm more surprised that you expected different.

I think you are all very naive. I do not care either way but I am very surprised by the Keswick bashing. And I'd usually be the first to join in A two piece ball against a 4 piece ball should be researched before comments are made because it will be better for everyone if a 4 piece was used on turf. A 2 piece will swing more and will deteriorate a lot quicker. A 4 piece will hold it's form and will have less movement. If a 2 piece is used then I would expect a lot of out rights!
As for Keswick leaving I think that is a stupid statement. We should want as many strong clubs as possible in this association to make it bigger and stronger and just because they are using a different surface should make no difference. I used to love playing Heccies (at home) as they were a strong club and when they put in a turf pitch and left I think it left a large hole in the competition.
I do believe though Keswick will be considering going to turf next year. I suppose Gowser will be able to confirm if this is true...

Your missing the point. I understand the mechanics of 4 piece vs 2 piece, but bowlers are not reasonably going to want to bowl with something that they haven't been training with, or playing with. Some might, but not many I don't think. I would think most bowlers would want to bowl with a ball that they are comfortable with, and a ball that they are used to.
From memory hectorville never tried to change the format of the competition, nor did they recommend what equipment clubs should use when they played against them.

Both deserved imo. Cant remember where i saw 22 guys and an umpire enjoy a game of cricket as much yesterdays game. I'd be curious to know what the WYC boys thought of the deck and game itself. Good bunch of guys (even the ones who couldnt be bothered to shake hands after the game).
Yes, much has been written about the balls, one might be forgiven for thinking we are asking teams to bowl with a boomerang.

This ^^
Cricket Victoria did commission some research on 2 vs 4-piece balls on different surfaces traditional hard/new synthetic rubber pseudo pitches/turf pitches. Statistically the variance is insignificant (swing was not measured, obviously).
so what do you guys reckon... should we do what the channel 10 footy commentary team do after rd 1 and write off cove and keswick and pencil in plympton as definite grand finalists?

The Moose wrote:Is there any truth to the rumours that Jason Akermanis is playing for plympton on day two next week as part of their sportsmans night? Saw a Ramblers player at the duck Inn last night after play with one other bloke after a win, 5 fa and a hatrick. Do the Ramblers not drink together or do the Ramblers just not drink with the individual?
haha i do love the selective non responses on this forum
The mentioned Ramblers player who took the five for with a hat trick went to the duck inn purely because we didnt have any carlton draught back at the club cause we think it tastes like crap and hes the only one who drinks it. The mentioned player and one of our old hands went there to catch up as they havent seen each other for a while, that was the only reason why he was there. We didnt go back there because were all cheap and we would rather pay 3 bucks for a beer rather then 10. It should also be noted that they both came back to weymouth anyway. Moose and SOTY stop stirring up trouble, our rivalry is big enuf without you two making it worse

I LOL'd. Can't believe you expected them to use it.
Better give teams a carton of new 4 piece-ball to practice with, then you might get some wanting to use it.

sounds pretty good to me
Nah, plympton premiers. Jason Akermanis will fall in love with the club and bring over Barry Hall and Simon goodwin and they'll set up a boxing social club with goody the bookie making the club very financial allowing an abundance of recruits after christmas. Cove will fold due to lack of excuses why they're not dominating ASCA and keswick will spit the chewy when they can't use golf balls and leave for a turf competition.
