English Rugby League GF

Post by Wedgie »

Amazing performance from the Leeds Rhinos, finished 5th at the end of the minor round and won their Prelim to meet St Helens who finished 3rd in the GF.
Pity the matches aren't on Fox anymore, will be hoping the GF is on Saturday night though.
Interesting finals set up with the top team getting to chose who they play in a Prelim (Warrington chose Leeds) as it gives your opposition plenty of ammo.

Holy Moly, the Rhinos got up and beat St Helens 32-16 to win their 4th championship in 5 years.
What an amazing performance to come from 5th at the end of the minor round and even loser for most of the season!
St Helens 5th grand final loss in a row!

Decision made that the Manly/Leeds World Club Challenge game will be held in England in February, the Rhinos wanted to go to Sydney and Manly wanted to play in Dubai!
Leeds gunning for the 3rd title, Manly their 2nd (Manly's only win was against Leeds in 2009.
Mind you its debatable as one of the years that Leeds lost was to Melbourne and Melbourne got stripped of the award.

Match has been played 20 times with the British side winning 12 and the Aussie side winning 8.

I've always wondered why the, ahem, 'World' Club Challenge is always played in the UK.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

It isnt.
The first one was played in Sydney and theyve also been played in Auckland and Brisbane.
I would say its usually played in the UK because of the timing and when the respective seasons begin and finish. The English clubs play a lot more games.
It is the home of rugby league and the crowds there do make for a much better atmosphere too.
