My view is that we are all capable of doing our own reading, and of asking questions of people who may be able to point us to data that will help rational decision making.
I regard simply joining the mob without doing the reading as sheer laziness, and trying to push others to do so as a form of bullying and political proselytising that needs to be resisted.
Psyber I assume you are referring to people such as Sky Pilot and "straight talker" who, as shown in this post, appear to swallow and regurgitate denialist rubbish from who knows where.

Sky Pilot mentioned something about Fox News and we know "straight talker" gets his climate change "info" from sites such as Minnesotans for Global Warming.

Neither poster was able to substantiate their claims when asked - a classic example of joining the mob and laziness you posted about!
Oh I should also mention Mr. Abbott, who believes carbon dioxide is weightless.

It would be nice if he and his advisers had better research skills!

Jimmy if you believe the Milankovitch Cycle is responsible for the current warming of the planet you have either misunderstood or ignored what the latest science is telling us:

It is beyond reasonable doubt that human activities – the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation – are triggering the changes we are witnessing in the global climate.

A very large body of observations, experiments, analyses, and physical theory points to increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere – with carbon dioxide being the most important – as the primary cause of the observed warming.

Increasing carbon dioxide emissions are primarily produced by the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, as well as deforestation.

Natural factors, like changes in the Earth’s orbit or solar activity, cannot explain the world-wide warming trend.

I am seriously wondering where you are coming from in this debate - first you say we contribute to the climate problem then you contradict yourself and suggest it's just a natural cycle. :?

A bit like Tony Abbott - first he wants a carbon tax then he doesnt. He says the science of climate change is crap then he proposes to introduce a scheme to deal with Australias carbon emissions. WTF?

Sometimes I think the climate change deniers are just making it up as they go along. [-x

I really don't like the description "Un-Australian", bu Mr Abbott was asked if it was OK to shift Question Time tomorrow by 15 minutes.

Guess what his answer was?

No......

Oh, I (and half the site) could name one or two professional trolls on here.

I seem to be only called a troll by those who disagree with me politically and get frustrated by facts.

Read your last post to fish and see if I'm not right about the three stars ;)

No - you get called a troll because you continually try to browbeat everyone into agreeing with your views whilst trying to make out that you are objective.
I may not agree with your politics but I accept that - you just get on here to stir up an argument and only accept other people's views if they suit you.
I am quite certain Fish can give me a good comeback without the need for you to stick your nose into it - you are a troll - go suck some lemons elsewhere

And you can stick your ;) where the sun don't shine as well.

This is a Politics Forum, Jimmy.

I put my point of view, you put yours.

I've obviously made the mistake of thinking you could take it as well as dishing it out, but I'll bear in mind that you feel browbeaten if I post my opinion or answer your insults with facts.

It would be much nicer if there was a lot more politeness all round and I think most posters would respond to that, including me, but perhaps that's a forlorn hope if some posters think your abuse of other posters is 'classic' :?

No argument from me there, fish.
I assume there are some people in whom the lack of research is inability rather than laziness, but I expect most of those unfortunates would also struggle to get on line without help.
Tony Abbott has no excuse - "almost weightless" may have gotten him off the hook a bit, but even that is a stretch in the context.

I have said, and still believe, that we are within a cycle and that mankind is contributing to the problem.
It was not long ago that people on here were predicting the death of the Murray whilst I said it was a cycle.

My entire argument is that we in Australia will make SFA difference unless the top 10 polluters do something.
The argument that we are, per capita, one of the worst polluters, is totally hollow and a complete abuse of statistics. We make SFA difference compared to the top 10 - look at the scientific facts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are destroying our great country in the pursuit of an ideology that we want to be the front runners when the worst people will rape us blind.
In addition, the fact that this government will use this entire subject as an opportunity to redistribute wealth makes a total mockery of the whole situation.
If you, and I mean YOU R&B :-! , think the people of Australia are stupid enough to accept that people on lower incomes should get more compensation for the carbon tax than everyone else, and not see it as blatant wealth distribution, then you really are viewing your larger intestine - hang on ;)

Jimmy, you're carrying on like somebody that watches Fox News.

Welfare by definition is wealth redistribution and something all sane people support so to take your bleating to it's logical conclusion, do you think welfare should be scrapped?
