Whilst its anyone game tomorrow in the State League Match of the Round, im certain the old boys wont get within 10 points of the Onkas 7s as it boasts Phillips, Wade, Whitto, Aysh, Jamie, Anto, Irish Pauly and Sammy. Now thats a 7s side. It also beat the reigning premiers by 14 points on Wednesday. If those 8 play every game they wont lose more than 1 game.

Onkas by about 12 points I reckon in the end against flinders. Good game early but onkas were too good for us in the end. With a few boys still to come back this week it's not all doom and gloom, so looking forward to see how we respond this week against undefeated WI!
NA FIANNA 0.20-20 def IRISH AUST 0.2-2 Despite a lopsided scoreline it was a pretty good game of Gaelic football played in good spirits. Big credit goes to Coach Doeke (as if he doesnt get enough credit on this forum) as he played 15 a side with 15 players so Na Fianna didnt have to sit players out. We are both of the opinion that ALL State League games should be 15 a side.
ONKAS 7.10-31 def FLINDERS 3.8-17 Best Onk ; Gabe, Aysh, Wade and Danny but all players contributed in their various roles. Flinders ; Freddy, Toddy, Puck and Dale. Flinders had a goal lead after Freddys 2nd late in the first half but a defense lapse allowed 3 late goals to Onkas and gave them a handy half time lead they would continue to build on in the second half. Overall a pretty good fast game. This game probably showed us that Flinders are still searching for that overall consistency to be challenging the Top 3 whilst Onkas still have a very strong team and will be challenging for all 3 Mens trophies this year. I must compliment the spirit and discipline of both teams. In a high intensity game there were no malicous acts and i felt the referee was shown respect.

Though you did a decent job wristy, we certainly can't blame you for the result in any way. Flinders v onkas is probably one of the harder games to ref, been a bit of history over the years so you did well to avert any repeat of previous games!
Good work by Doeckes and Irish playing 15-a-side with the bare 15. The Taints played 15-a-side with 16 players on Friday night, against Western Ireland's 20 odd, and the league seems in a strong enough state (besides Mitcham early, and i suppose us at the moment) that the 13-a-side clause should probably be abolished all together IMHO. It was the Taints shipping 2 pretty soft goals which cost us, not the difference in player numbers!
Looks like not a lot of defence was played in the Flinders vs Onkas game! Flinder's losing score of 3.8 would often win a lot of games.
Good to see Mitcham with plenty of numbers on Friday night.
Liked the look of the newbies Port Districts on Friday night. My beloved Taints will have to pull their fingers out and get their best players on the park, otherwise we will probably be the first big scalp that Port takes!
Onto the onkas 7 a side squad, is anyone else suprised they picked a full strength side? Flinders are using the comp for a different reason and so are others so just want to get people's thoughts on this

No i too was suprised to see their 7 a side at full strength I dont necessarily think its a bad thing though. One thing you can say about Onkas Mens teams is that when they win they do so with a certain amount of humility. You must certainly cant fault them either for entering a competition with the intention of winning it. You wont get a better Gaelic training tool for State League than 7 a side. I know at Na Fianna you are likely to see a few cameos from big name players who need a run or are coming back from injury as well as the new players playing regularly each week and possibly the odd veteran or two. As Competition Manager of the 7s i think its fantastic that the best Gaelic footballers in SA play in the 7s league and will only help the new teams learning curve and in particular benefit the 2 minor teams when they cross paths with the competitions best.

At last nights commitee meeting 7s was high on the agenda. Clubs can expect their invoices this week. I think clubs will be pleasantly suprised by the longer season for less $ that was officially approved last night . The other item that has been bought forward of some interest is that Tony "Keith" Conlon is endevouring to bring a 3rd minors side from Rostrevor which among other things alleviate the bye for each team. This is just a heads up for teams so you are aware that your bye round may become a 6.45 game v Rostrevor to avoid having to re-do the fixture. Teams will all be contacted should this planning become a certainty. It is safe to assume that should it occur it will take a couple of weeks before we see the 12th team.

Big thankyou to wristy who last night successfully fought to keep the sevens fees to a very reasonable level. We at flinders are extremely happy to have our fees reduced by about 1000 dollars which gives us more money to Put back into the club and further develop our juniors. A bit step forward for the sevens competition imo

He decided not to play, we almost decided to pull out only having 7 guys but got a young guy coming out for his first match next week and had another player play his first in round one (not sure if he will play each week yet).
Next three weeks are the issue for us with uni exams a few players are questioning if they can play, but we knew that when we looked at the start dates. Were lucky last year with the season starting after exams.

Thats too bad about Kang. He most certainly had the best fro-hawk mullet in the 7s league last year. I wouldnt panic too much about numbers as there should be players willing to fill in for a week here and there. I remember last year the big Zues jumping at the oppurtunitie to be a "Dingo for a day"

I believe that the Big Polish Bear's love of Dutch Arsenal legends such as the great Dennis Bergkamp, Mark Overmars, and now Robin van Persie mean that he is always keen to pull on the oranje of the Dingoes when needed...

From what i have seen the young fellas will have too much run and are better at finishing with points. Minors by 6-10. Either way im tipping Flinders. Have you heard how Tinas hip is doing Nev?

Apparently he is walking pretty freely at the moment and was 50/50 for this week but I told him to have an extra week off to be safe.
Fair few changes for this weeks game, big shawn Mcgregor and James Neeson return to the side and div 3 medalist valor thach and grand final hero John boxer make their first appearances for the club!
