I don't know many low income earners who can afford that.
I could also refer to many other similar sections of superannuation taxation law.
As for inflated executive salaries, I have no problem with executives being paid fairly for their work if they do a good job. I do have a problem with obscenely inflated bonuses and salary increases when they don't.
It is taking money from shareholders. For example, Rupert Murdoch got a salary of about $38 million last year and his company performed shockingly.
Qantas haven't paid a dividend for years. The shareholders vote an increase because they're dominated by the large institutional funds, who just look after each other.
Superannuation levels - I had thought that was only meant to be a catch up provision for a limited time under Howard. I don't recall how long was intended.
My understanding was that the theory was that the baby-boomers didn't have enough Superannuation because of the unfavourable arrangements earlier in their lives in the Hawke/Keating era and the catch up would make them less dependent on pensions the nation couldn't afford. (We've discussed before the advice I had to forget Superannaution by two accountancy firms during that era.)

Obscene Salaries and bonuses - I agree totally, and add they are often still obscene even when they do do a good job.
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

Interesting, Psyber.

A different look at CEO salaries is to say that Mr Joyce is regarded as being worth about 10 brain surgeons, or 25 GP's (approximately).

In the corporate world, that may be defensible, but I think some of the corporate world has lost the plot when it comes to remunerating executives.

I'm sure there are many extremely competent CEO's or business leaders who do a great job for a fraction of 5 million a year and think they're adequately compensated.

One thing is for certain, after watching Paul Keating last night, he proves you can be Prime Minister despite some severe personal disabilities.
He cant string a sentence together without 3 "You knose" and 4 "I mean"
At least Abbott has a level of intelligence and education.

I do enjoy watching Felix Williamson in Underbelly and thinking Paul Keating was, unfortunately, born after his time - he would have fitted in well in that era

Intelligence is not proportional to level of education.

You can be intellegent and not wise.

Its not how you speak thats important, its how you convey a message and more importantly do what you say.
If at first you don't succeed , then destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place

Must have been a different Paul Keating to the one I heard speak for an hour on 774 ABC Local Radio. This Paul Keating was very interesting and highly articulate. So refereshing to hear a politician (albeit an ex one) speak his mind and not in One minute soundgrabs designed to appeal to focus groups in marginal seats. And frankly I wasn't the guy's biggest fan by any means when he was PM.

I have heard him speak a number of times post parliament. Concur with the view expressed in the main by LL. I think political persuasion at times clouds judgement as to what actually happens.

Malcolm Fraser has shown himself to be an exemplery compassionate spokesman for the wellbeing of the less fortunate. This never came out when he was in parliament. We get the politics/politicians we have now because if they dared to say they had changed their mind etc, the headlines scream so and so backflips, can't make up his mind, etc.

Completely agree - on all counts. I would never consider Paul Keating to be less than articulate and well spoken. The vitriol he was known to dish out in parliament has clouded some people's view on him overall. The way in which he said things - during and post parliament - is not what I would consider inarticulate or poorly spoken.

I have posted examples which I believe prove my statement.
I have said that he continually uses "you know" and "I mean" in his statements - hardly articulate
I therefore contest the statement that my political persuasion clouds my judgement
Unfortunately, I cannot find an online version of his most pitiful performances that I originally referred to.

The lowest point of political debate in this country was the day Paul Keating was elected as Prime Minister and, he thinks, gave him some right to comment on anything to do with social, political or economic circumstances for the rest of his life.

He was, as he said himself, the Placido Domingo. He was always light entertainment

Never a dull moment even though he was a failure as a Prime Minister, Treasurer and economist.
The most feral politician ever - the reason I will never vote for a republic if the politicians elect the President

I'll take a bite at that, Jimmy.

I'm not a big PJK fan and always considered him more a natural Liberal (love of privatisation etc) but you'd be hard pressed to find too many economists that didn't think he was a great Treasurer and probably the best we ever had (excluding the other World's Greatest Treasurer Wayne Swan of course).

Gozu - I put him up there with David Irving as two of the worst rewriters of history.
At least Irving is denying a part of history, whereas Keating's only aim is to try to rewrite his own history to try to erase his many, and overwhelming, failures.
