Quick questions guys - where does everyone get their bikes serviced? any good/bad experiences? what price would you expect to pay for a full service?

I personally use cycleworx on port road woodville. Is where I got my bike from. Haven't had to pay for a service yet, dutchy had 1 done a few pages back.

i still have it and havent sold it yet..
i was gonna sell just the frame (might still do that if someone wants it) but im now gonna upgrade my groupset to SRAM red on my new bike so will have the 105 left over.
so im looking at building it back up to a full bike and selling it as a complete bike i think it will be easier to sell than just the frame..
basically it will come with the frame, handle bars, seat post, wheels, shimano 105 groupset, the only thing it wont have is a seat...
i reckon i will want $1600 for it as a complete bike... which i dont think is too bad for a carbon bike less than a year old..

i get mine serviced at specialized store (JT's) on anzac highway.. bought all my stuff from there and happens to be the closet to my house.. think its like $90 for a full service, bit more if you want the Bottom bracket, groupset pulled apart and serviced too..

on another note i came off my new bike wednesday night coming down upper sturt rd.. car flew past me real close and i sh*t myself and flinched a bit, hit the dirt and over i went, ended up in the gravel/rocks on the side of the road.. lost a bit of skin but luckly the bike was ok...

No worries. I want to spend no more than $2000 as I will only be semi serious. I already have cleats and pedals that I upgraded from my last bike which now I think about it my shoes and pedals were probably worth more than my bike!

I'm in no rush and I will have a serious look around town over the next week or so seeing as the TDU starts soon.

As mentioned earlier I was having derailuer problems not being able to get the chain to stay on the big ring, well got a call from the bike shop today and the shifter is stuffed, $350 replacement, FFS. Even worse wont get the bike back until Wednesday and the big weekend of prep rides I had planned are now gone.

Thats nearly $1k in new parts and servicing in 12 months on a bike that was only 12 months old when I got it.

Positive was my new shoes arrived today and fit perfectly (was a bit nervous ordering online) and got my gels for the TDU.

I see the long range forecast is for 34 on Friday, going to be toasty!

So Ride Like Crazy over and done with for another year, how did any of the SAFooty punters who gave it a crack go?

Got around the full course in four hours 16 mins, average speed 25.6 km/h. Happy with that. Nice little tune up for next friday.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Nice one, the guy I ride with did it in 4 1/2 hours.

I came to work via the first 40kms of Fridays route, Anstey Hill doesnt seem to bad, no serious gradients just a real grind up the hill. Hill Rd (first KOM) was a bit more severe than I thought but looks quite managable, it does have some tough parts though. After that its a nice downhill section to get the legs right for Menglers.

Have had a gout attack in my foot since Sunday so have been panicing about getting it right for Friday, thankfully it has subsided overnight and now cant wait for Friday, get my bike back today and it should be ready to roll. Will roll the legs over tomorrow morning for 15-20kms.

In the last 4 months Ive had new tyres, new brake pads, new shifters, new chain, new cassette, new bar tape, new pedals put on the bike so it should be like new!

OK so i have been planning on getting into bike riding for some time and it seems i have been looking for bargains forever!

Anyhow, I now have a frame, a Trek 1500 from 2008... In the disocovery channel as per Armstrongs bike.

I am going to buy a new groupset, most likely ultegra (from http://ribblecycles.co.uk/) - Does anyone know anywhere cheaper online?

Now have to make decisions on wheels - any thoughts?

Cant wait to start using it!

Well the group I rode with we left at 5:30 to beat the heat that didn"t really eventuate until we left at 1:30 pm....

Arrived at Tanunda at 11:25 so 5:55 total time but ride time according to my polar HRM was 5:25, with an average speed of 25.2 km/h.

Phew, I wish Menglers Hill had been after 10 km not 110 km....

Well done am. One "dumb" question from someone who didn't ride - how'd you get back?

well done man.. good solid ride..

because i forgot to register we started off just around the corner from the parade.. had a group of 4 of us which grew and shrank throught the day.. was a good ride though.... some tough leg burning climbs in there..

had to ride to norwood first from my house just off anzac highway so had done 11km beofre we started then headed off..

distance 136.2km, total time 4hrs 17mins, ave speed 32km/h, ave HR 155.

our group was a bit competitive so we sprinted for each of the sprint points and KOM challenges... i took out both the sprints in our group but got killed on the KOM.. this kept the banter up and laughs for the flatter bits...
we didnt stop at all and i was a bit silly and ran out of water just going over the top of menglers hill... was starting to feel a bit flat coming into the end...

one of the guys that rode with us then turned around and rode back to the city.. chalking up 220km for the day.. freak...
the others went to the pub for some beers and got picked up later...
was a great day very well organised...

now just resting up for the ride down to willunga hill tomorrow morning....
looks like we are heading up the freeway then down to mclaren vale watching them there then heading over to willunga to ride willunga hill and watch them go finish....

should be a good day..

was pretty happy with my ride, got up Anstey's OK and the first KOM but being only my 2nd ride over 75kms when I got to the bottom of Menglers at the 115km mark and the escape route was on offer I took the easy option. I wasnt confident I had the legs to get up, will head back one day to give it a crack with fresh legs.

I heard that Menglers is pretty similar to Willunga?

Great day and very well organised.
